Al-Talaba Sports Club ( ar, نادي الطلبة الرياضي, lit=''Students Sports Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. Its football team competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1977, it was merged with another club called Al-Jamiea ahead of the 1978–79 season. Their home stadium is Al-Talaba Stadium. Al-Talaba are one of Iraq's most successful teams having won five league titles, with the most recent being in the 2001–02 season. They have also achieved two FA Cups, one Super Cup and a joint-record three Elite Cups. The club's best achievements on the continental stage include finishing fourth at the 1986 Asian Club Championship and finishing second and fourth at the 1995 and 1998–99 editions of the Asian Cup Winners' Cup respectively. Iraqi Elite Cup
The Iraqi Elite Cup ( ar, كأس النخبة العراقي), known officially as the Baghdad Championship ( ar, بطولة بغداد) and previously known as the Mother of all Battles Championship ( ar, بطولة أم المعارك, ''Botola Umm Al-Ma'arik''), referring to the name that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein referred to the Gulf War as, was an annual football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football that was usually held at the beginning of each season. It was founded in 1991, and its last edition was the 2003 edition. The top eight teams of the previous Iraqi Premier League season entered the competition, with the exception of the 1991 and 1993 editions, where the top six teams of the league entered. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). The 1986 Asian Club Championship was the 6th edition of the annual Asian club football competition hosted by Asian Football Confederation. Several Asian clubs started the qualifying round in Fall of 1986. The final round was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December 1986. 2021–22 Iraqi Premier League
The 2021–22 Iraqi Premier League is the 48th season of the Iraqi Premier League, the highest tier football league in Iraq, since its establishment in 1974. The season started on 20 September 2021 and will end on 29 May 2022. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya are the defending champions after winning their seventh title last season. Al-Sinaa, Newroz and Samarra join as the three promoted clubs from the 2020–21 Iraq Division One. The Iraqi Super Cup ( ar, كأس السوبر العراقي), previously called Iraqi Perseverance Cup ( ar, كأس المثابرة العراقي), is Iraqi football's annual match contested between the champions of the previous Iraqi Premier League season and the holders of the Iraq FA Cup. If the Premier League champions also won the FA Cup then the league runners-up provide the opposition. The fixture is a recognised football super cup. Jamal Salih
Jamal Salih ( ar, جمال صالح) is a former Iraq national football player and coach, and currently as a sports director for Sharjah FC, and has been in the role since march of 2018. Career He began his career as a player with Al-Omma Sports Club. He helped guide Al-Jamiea (merged with Al-Talaba in 1978) to the top division in 1970 with the likes of Qusai Abdul-Sattar and Shamil Kamil, and became head coach of the club in 1974. He went on to coach Al-Rasheed, Al-Nafat, the Iraqi army national side and several clubs in Libya and the UAE. He holds a PhD in Sports Pedegogy from Pittsburgh University. Doctor Jamal Salih is one of the most historic coaches in the Iraqi Premier League, due to the three trophies that he collected as a manager in the 80's.
