Take Him Home
Thanks to Johnny Logan's win in Brussels in 1987, the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest was to be held in Dublin. The song "Take Him Home", written and composed by Peter Eades and performed by Jump The Gun was chosen to represent Ireland after winning the national final selection. Before Eurovision ''Eurosong '88'' Held on 6 March 1988 at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, the national final, ''Eurosong '88'' was hosted for the second year in succession by Marty Whelan (who would provide commentary for RTÉ's broadcast of the contest from 2000 onwards, although he did provided the TV commentary once before, in 1987), and Maxi, who had represented Ireland as a soloist in the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, and again as part of the group Sheeba in 1981. Jump The Gun (band)
Jump the Gun was an Ireland, Irish pop/rock band, best known for competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 with the song "Take Him Home". They scored 79 points, finishing eighth in the contest. Jump The Gun was succeeded by Kiev Connolly & The Missing Passengers in 1989. The group consisted of Roy Taylor on lead vocals and Bass Guitar with Eric Sharpe on Guitar, Peter Eades on Piano & keyboards, Brian O'Reilly on Drums and Ciaran Wilde on Saxophone. Taylor had experienced success in Ireland during the early 1980s as part of the group, Roy Taylor, Karen Black and the Nevada. Eurovision Song Contest 1982
The Eurovision Song Contest 1982 was the 27th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Harrogate, United Kingdom, following the country's victory at the with the song "Making Your Mind Up" by Bucks Fizz. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the contest was held at the Harrogate International Centre on 24 April 1982 and was hosted by English TV presenter and newsreader Jan Leeming. Eighteen countries took part in the contest with deciding not to enter this year. Ireland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 55 times since making its debut at the contest in Naples, missing only two contests since then ( and ). John Skehan
John Skehan (18 July 1922 – 18 November 1992) was a prolific broadcaster on RTÉ, radio and television, for four decades. Prior to joining RTÉ, Skehan served in the Irish Army, reaching the rank of captain during The Emergency. Skehan began his television career as a reporter on ''Broadsheet'', Telefís Éireann's first current affairs series. He went on to become a familiar face and voice on later programmes such as ''Discovery''. Later he moved to radio and, in 1980, he won a Jacob's Award for his radio archive series ''Play It Again, John''. RTÉ Radio 1 ( ga, RTÉ Raidió 1) is an Irish national radio station owned and operated by RTÉ and is the direct descendant of Dublin radio station 2RN, which began broadcasting on a regular basis on 1 January 1926. Michael James Murphy (born 20 October 1941) is an Irish broadcaster, actor and property developer. He is best known for his long broadcasting career with RTÉ, presenting many TV shows such as ''The Live Mike'', ''Winning Streak'' and '' The Big Interview''. Early life Murphy was born in Dublin on 20 October 1941. He was the eldest of five children born to Ned and Kitty Murphy. The Eurovision Song Contest 1991 was the 36th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision Song Contest 1990 was the 35th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It was held in Zagreb, SR Croatia, Yugoslavia, following the country's victory at the with the song " Rock Me" by Riva. It was the only time Yugoslavia hosted the contest. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcasters Yugoslav Radio Television (JRT) and Radiotelevision Zagreb (RTZ), the contest was held at Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on 5 May 1990 and was hosted by Croatian television presenters Helga Vlahović and Oliver Mlakar. Liam Reilly
Liam Reilly (29 January 1955 – 1 January 2021) was an Irish singer-songwriter and a member of the group Bagatelle, formed in 1978 by drummer Walter (Wally) McConville along with bass player Ken Doyle and guitarist John O’Brien. Career In 1980 while recording the band's debut album, Reilly had received an offer from Gus Dudgeon (Elton John's producer, who has since died) to begin a solo career in return for leaving the other band members to their own devices. However Reilly refused and insisted on sticking by the other members as they had done the same for him until that point. After leaving the group in the mid-1980s he moved to Savannah, Georgia and began a solo career. While in Savannah, he recorded an album entitled ''Savannah Souvenir'' which featured much of Reilly's keyboards and vocals and was produced by Phil Hadaway.
