Jump The Gun (band)
Jump the Gun was an Ireland, Irish pop/rock band, best known for competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 with the song "Take Him Home". They scored 79 points, finishing eighth in the contest. Jump The Gun was succeeded by Kiev Connolly & The Missing Passengers in 1989. The group consisted of Roy Taylor on lead vocals and Bass Guitar with Eric Sharpe on Guitar, Peter Eades on Piano & keyboards, Brian O'Reilly on Drums and Ciaran Wilde on Saxophone. Taylor had experienced success in Ireland during the early 1980s as part of the group, Roy Taylor, Karen Black and the Nevada. Ciaran Wilde Joined the group shortly before the Eurovision in 1988, the other members of the group had all been members of Irish Show bands in the 80s. Eurovision Song Contest 1988
The Eurovision Song Contest 1988 was the 33rd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Dublin, Ireland, following Johnny Logan's win at the with the song " Hold Me Now". Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTÉ), the contest was held at the RDS Simmonscourt on 30 April 1988 and was hosted by Irish broadcaster Pat Kenny and the Miss Ireland 1980 Michelle Rocca, marking the first time since the contest that two presenters had hosted the contest. Twenty-one countries took part, after an initial plan of twenty-two, as ' song was disqualified for breaching the contest's rules by being published a few years earlier, in an attempt to represent the country at a prior edition of the contest. Thanks to Johnny Logan's win in Brussels in 1987, the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest was to be held in Dublin. The song "Take Him Home", written and composed by Peter Eades and performed by Jump The Gun was chosen to represent Ireland after winning the national final selection. Kevin "Kiev" Connolly (born 5 April 1956) is an Irish songwriter, producer and musician. His group, Kiev Connolly and The Missing Passengers, represented Ireland at the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest. Early life and education Born in Ballymote, County Sligo, Connolly attended school in Cork. He moved to Germany in 1978, and worked as a studio musician and producer in West Berlin. Career Connolly formed the pop group "The Missing Passengers" in 1985. The group secured a recording contract with Ariola/RCA in Germany and "toured Europe extensively". In 1985, the group performed Connolly's song "Did She Tell You" on both the Extratour program Radio Bremen/ARD, and the Musik Convoy program on WDR/ARD. Connolly returned to Ireland in 1987. Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard (born 13 May 1954), better known by his stage name Johnny Logan, is an Irish singer and composer. He is known as being the only performer to have won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in Eurovision Song Contest 1980, 1980 and Eurovision Song Contest 1987, 1987. He also composed the winning song in Eurovision Song Contest 1992, 1992. Logan first won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980, with the song "What's Another Year" written by Shay Healy. "Hold Me Now" is a song composed and performed by Irish singer Johnny Logan, which became the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 for .
