Suzanne Cowan is a Canadian Liberal party politician based in Toronto, Ontario. She is the current president of the Liberal Party of Canada. Biography Suzanne Cowan is a native of Halifax. Cowan's father is Jim Cowan, a retired Liberal senator. Cowan received degrees from Mount Allison University and Université de Strasbourg in Strasbourg, France. Cowan became the president of the Liberal Party of Canada in April 2018 after running unopposed. Prior to being president, she served as vice president from 2016 to 2018, and as a senior advisor to Justin Trudeau from 2012 to 2015. In 2014, whilst Cowan was senior advisor to Trudeau, Trudeau had removed her father James and his fellow Liberal Senators from the Liberal caucus. Anna Gainey
Robert Michael Gainey (born December 13, 1953) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1973 until 1989. After retiring from active play, he became a hockey coach and later an executive with the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars organization before returning to Montreal as general manager from 2003 to 2010. Currently, Gainey serves as a team consultant for the St. Louis Blues as well as a volunteer senior advisor for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2017 Gainey was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. James S. Cowan (born January 22, 1942) is a Canadian lawyer, a senator from Nova Scotia from 2005 to 2017, and was Leader of the Opposition in the Senate from 2008 to 2015 and leader of the Independent Liberal caucus until June 15, 2016. A lawyer, Cowan has been a partner at the legal firm of Stewart McKelvey since 1967. He retired from the senate on January 22, 2017, having reached the mandatory retirement age for senators.
