Surya Wonowidjojo
Surya Wonowidjojo (15 August 1923 – 28 August 1985) was an Indonesian businessman and cigarette maker. Wonowidjojo, sometimes spelt Wonowidjoyo, was a Chinese Indonesian ( Hokchia totok) born Tjoa Ing Hwie or Tjoa Jien Hwie (;Leo Suryadinata. ''Prominent Indonesian Chinese: Biographical Sketches''. Wonowidjojo's family first migrated to Sampang, Madura when Surya was four years old. When his father died, he moved to Kediri, East Java where he worked for his uncle who was a ''kretek'' manufacturer. Wonowidjojo founded Gudang Garam in Kediri in 1958 and headed the company until handing control to his son in 1984. Fujian
Fujian (; alternately romanized as Fukien or Hokkien) is a province on the southeastern coast of China. Kediri (city)
Kediri (, ''Kutha Kadhiri'') is an Indonesian city, located near the Brantas River in the province of East Java on the island of Java. It covers an area of 63.40 km2 and had a population of 268,950 at the 2010 Census and 286,796 at the 2020 Census. It is one of two ' Daerah Tingkat II' that have the name 'Kediri' (the other is the Regency of Kediri, which surrounds the city). Madura Island is an Indonesian island off the northeastern coast of Java. Kretek
Kretek () are unfiltered cigarettes of Indonesian origin, made with a blend of tobacco, cloves, and other flavors. The word "kretek" itself is an onomatopoetic term for the crackling sound of burning cloves. Partly due to favorable taxation compared to filtered "white" cigarettes, kreteks are by far the most widely smoked form of cigarettes in Indonesia, where they are preferred by about 90% of smokers.
