''Sudans Post'' (Arabic ســـودانس بـوست) is an independent South Sudanese online newspaper published primarily in English and covers Sudan and South Sudan. It was founded in 2017, but was not launched until December 2019. In February 2021, it claimed that it was the second-most visited South Sudanese news website in the country with more than 500,000 monthly page views, and has been visited – as of June 2021 – over 3 million times. The website brings attention to political, social and cultural issues in Sudan and South Sudan. Location Sudans Post is currently being operated from abroad. It was headquartered in Juba's Tongpiny neighborhood prior to June 2020 when government security agencies blocked access to its website and closed its office. An online newspaper (or electronic news or electronic news publication) is the online version of a newspaper, either as a stand-alone publication or as the online version of a printed periodical. Going online created more opportunities for newspapers, such as competing with broadcast journalism in presenting breaking news in a more timely manner. Juba
Juba () is the capital and largest city of South Sudan. The city is situated on the White Nile and also serves as the capital of the Central Equatoria State. It is the world's newest capital city to be elevated as such, and had a population of 525,953 in 2017. It has an area of , with the metropolitan area covering . Juba was established in 1920–21 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in a small Bari village, also called Juba. The city was made as the capital of Mongalla Province in the late 1920s. South Sudan
South Sudan (; din, Paguot Thudän), officially the Republic of South Sudan ( din, Paankɔc Cuëny Thudän), is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya. Its population was estimated as 12,778,250 in 2019. Juba is the capital and largest city. It gained independence from Sudan on 9 July 2011, making it the most recent sovereign state or country with widespread recognition as of 2022. Tor Madira Machier
John Tor Madira Machier (born December 13, 1990) is a South Sudanese journalist who serves as the editor-in-chief of Sudans Post newspaper since January 2020. He is also a co-founder of the newspaper, one of a few outlets in South Sudan. He worked for several media houses in both Sudan and South Sudan. Early life Madira was born in Bentiu, the capital of South Sudan's Unity State. He lived his childhood there and worked as a teacher for the state ministry of education. He later on worked with the Bentiu Radio FM-99 as a freelance reporter until December 2013 when the South Sudanese Civil War broke out and fled to Egypt. ''The New Arab'' or ''Al-Araby Al-Jadeed'' ( ar, العربي الجديد) is a pan-Arab news website headquartered in London. It was first launched in March 2014 as an online news website by Qatari company Fadaat Media. It went on to establish a daily newspaper in September 2014. In 2015, Fadaat launched Al Araby TV Network as a counterweight to Al Jazeera, which is viewed by the BBC to hold a pro-Muslim Brotherhood bias. South Sudanese
South Sudan is home to around 60 indigenous ethnic groups and 80 linguistic partitions among a population of around million. Historically, most ethnic groups were lacking in formal Western political institutions, with land held by the community and elders acting as problem solvers and adjudicators. Today, most ethnic groups still embrace a ''cattle culture'' in which livestock is the main measure of wealth and used for bride wealth. The majority of the ethnic groups in South Sudan are of African heritage who practice either Christianity or syncretisms of Christian and Traditional African religion.
