Storfjorden (Sunnmøre)
Storfjorden or Storfjord is a long fjord in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It stretches from the village of Hareid in the west to the villages of Tafjord and Geiranger in the east. The Storfjorden system branches off into several smaller fjords including the famous Geirangerfjord and Tafjorden. At the village of Stranda, the main fjord branches off into the Sunnylvsfjorden-Geirangerfjorden to the west and the Norddalsfjorden-Tafjorden to the east. The name literally means the "big" or "great" fjord, indicating that this is a long fjord and it is, in fact, the main fjord in this region. Stretching about , Storfjord is the 5th longest fjord in Norway. The Storfjord is a dominant topographical feature in the Sunnmøre region as it cuts the region in two parts that are only connected by ferry. Møre Og Romsdal
Møre og Romsdal (; en, Møre and Romsdal) is a county in the northernmost part of Western Norway. It borders the counties of Trøndelag, Innlandet, and Vestland. The county administration is located in the town of Molde, while Ålesund is the largest town. Nordfjorden (Sogn Og Fjordane)
Nordfjorden is the sixth longest fjord in Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Stryn, Gloppen, Stad, Bremanger, and Kinn, and it is the central feature of the entire Nordfjord region which makes up the northern third of the county. The long fjord stretches from Husevågøy island in Kinn Municipality to the village of Loen in Stryn Municipality. The fjord starts as runoff from the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier, in the east and it flows west, emptying into the ocean just south of the Stadlandet peninsula. The mouth of the fjord lies between the large islands of Vågsøy and Bremangerlandet (with the smaller island of Husevågøy lying in the middle of the mouth). Geirangerfjorden
The Geiranger Fjord ( no, Geirangerfjorden) is a fjord in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located entirely in the Stranda Municipality. It is a branch off the Sunnylvsfjorden, which is a branch off the Storfjorden (Great Fjord). The small village of Geiranger is located at the end of the fjord where the Geirangelva river empties into it. The fjord The fjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites. In 2005, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, jointly with the Nærøyfjorden. This status was challenged by the disputed plans to build power lines across the fjord. A car ferry, which doubles as a sightseeing trip, is operated by Fjord1 Nordvestlandske. It runs lengthwise along the fjord between the small towns of Geiranger and Hellesylt. Sykkylvsfjorden
Sykkylvsfjorden is a fjord in Sykkylven Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The fjord is a branch off of the main Storfjorden. The villages of Aure and Ikornnes are located near the mouth of the fjord and the village of Straumgjerde lies at the innermost part of the fjord. The Sykkylven Bridge crosses the fjord between Aure and Ikornnes. Ikorness is home to Ekornes sofas and Stressless recliners, the largest manufacturers of furniture in Scandinavia. The deepest point in the fjord is below sea level, near where it joins the Storfjorden. The long fjord is mostly less than wide (except for the area around the mouth of the fjord), with the narrowest point being only wide. Hjørundfjorden
Hjørundfjorden is a fjord in the traditional district of Sunnmøre in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located mostly within the municipality of Ørsta, although part of the mouth of the fjord is in Sykkylven. The long fjord is an arm off of the larger Storfjorden. Villages along the shores of the fjord include Molaupen, Hundeidvik, Trandal, Sæbø, and Store Standal. The area surrounding the Hjørundfjorden was part of the municipality of Hjørundfjord from 1838 until 1964. The Hjørundfjorden is surrounded by the Sunnmørsalpene mountain range in Ørsta and Sykkylven, with mountain peaks reaching straight up from the fjord, including Skårasalen and Skopphorn. Vartdalsfjorden
Vartdalsfjorden is a fjord (more technically, a strait) in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It begins at the Storfjorden and Sulafjorden in the northeast and flows through the municipalities of Hareid and Ulstein on the northern shore of the fjord and through the municipalities of Ørsta and Volda on the southern shore. The long fjord has one road crossing, the Eiksund Tunnel. The deepest part of the fjord reaches below sea level. The village of Vartdal lies on the southern shore of the fjord in Ørsta. Stranda is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the Sunnmøre region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Stranda. Knivsflå
Knivsflå is one of a handful of historic mountain farms on the steep mountainsides along the Geirangerfjorden. It is located in Stranda Municipality, Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Actually it was two farms sharing the location, and they have been inhabited since at least the 1600s. There is also a mountain pasture situated some above the fjord. It is reachable by a hardly visible footpath, starting from Knivsflå. The Knivsflå farm was abandoned in 1898 due to the danger of falling rocks. The farm is located to the north of the Seven Sisters waterfall, and directly across the fjord from the old Skageflå farm. Skageflå
Skageflå is one of a handful of historic mountain farms on the steep mountainsides along the Geirangerfjorden. It is located in Stranda Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Skageflå lies approximately above the fjord. The farm is a 2 to 4 hour walk from the nearby village of Geiranger, and can also be reached with help of a local sightseeing boat (M/S ''Geirangerfjord''). The boat takes passengers to a spot on the fjord just below the farm, from where they face a very steep half-hour climb. ''Coastal Odyssey'', a sea kayaking company, runs guided kayaking tours with interpretation to the farm. ''Active Geiranger'' also does guided kayak trips to the farm as well as water taxi trips to the trail. Directly across the fjord is the old Knivsflå farm and the Seven Sisters waterfall. Me-Åkernes
Me-Åkernes or Midtre Åkernes is a deserted fjord farm on the slopes of mountain along the northern shore of the Sunnylvsfjorden (an inner branch fjord of the Storfjorden) in Stranda Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located northeast of the village of Hellesylt. The farm is located in the West Norwegian Fjords Norwegian World Heritage Sites and has been preserved both for its unique geologic siting and as a representative of typical Norwegian farm culture in the fjord regions.
