Storfjorden (Sunnmøre)
Storfjorden or Storfjord is a long fjord in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It stretches from the village of Hareid in the west to the villages of Tafjord and Geiranger in the east. The Storfjorden system branches off into several smaller fjords including the famous Geirangerfjord and Tafjorden. At the village of Stranda, the main fjord branches off into the Sunnylvsfjorden-Geirangerfjorden to the west and the Norddalsfjorden-Tafjorden to the east. The name literally means the "big" or "great" fjord, indicating that this is a long fjord and it is, in fact, the main fjord in this region. Storfjorden (English: ''Great Fjord'') is the body of water separating Spitsbergen in the west from Barentsøya and Edgeøya to the east. Its southern limits are Kikutodden in Sørkapp Land east to Håøya, Tiholmane, Brækmoholmane, and Menkeøyane in Thousand Islands and northeast to Negerpynten—the southeastern promontory of Edgeøya. Storfjorden, Troms
Lyngen (also known as , , or ) is a fjord in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The long fjord is the longest fjord in Troms and it is often used as the dividing line between "northern Troms" and "southern Troms". The fjord is located within the municipalities of Skjervøy, Nordreisa, Lyngen, Gáivuotna–Kåfjord, and Storfjord. It stretches from the village of Hatteng in Storfjord Municipality in the south all the way north to the islands of Skjervøy Municipality. The Lyngen Alps lie along the western shore of the fjord and the European route E06 highway runs along the eastern shore. The Kåfjorden branches off of the main fjord on the east side, and the southernmost part of the fjord is also known as the Storfjorden. Laksefjorden
Laksefjorden ( en, Lakse Fjord; sme, Lágesvuotna) is a fjord located entirely in Lebesby Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. At long, it is the third-longest fjord in Finnmark county after the Porsangerfjorden and Varangerfjorden. The fjord is situated in a sparsely populated area, with only few and small settlements along the fjord, including Lebesby, Kunes, Ifjord, and Veidnes. The fjord is surrounded by the Sværholt Peninsula to the west and the Nordkinn Peninsula to the east, and it empties to the north into the Barents Sea. Hjørundfjorden
Hjørundfjorden is a fjord in the traditional district of Sunnmøre in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located mostly within the municipality of Ørsta, although part of the mouth of the fjord is in Sykkylven. The long fjord is an arm off of the larger Storfjorden. Villages along the shores of the fjord include Molaupen, Hundeidvik, Trandal, Sæbø, and Store Standal. The area surrounding the Hjørundfjorden was part of the municipality of Hjørundfjord from 1838 until 1964. The Hjørundfjorden is surrounded by the Sunnmørsalpene mountain range in Ørsta and Sykkylven, with mountain peaks reaching straight up from the fjord, including Skårasalen and Skopphorn. The Storfjord Bridge ( no, Storfjordbrua) is a proposed suspension bridge that would span Storfjorden in Sunnmøre, Norway. If built, it would be long and have a main span of . This would make it the longest spanned bridge in the world, easily surpassing the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, which has a main span of . The plans have been developed by Aas-Jakobsen for a Storfjordsambandet, a company which aims to toll finance the bridge. According to Rolf M. Larssen of Aas-Jakobsen, there is a larger challenge securing sufficient funding than technically building the bridge. It is estimated to cost 4.3 billion Norwegian krone. Storfjord Church
Storfjord Church ( no, Storfjord kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Storfjord Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hatteng. It is the main church for the Storfjord parish which is part of the Nord-Troms prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in an empire style in a long church design in 1952 using plans drawn up by the architect Bjarne Bystad Ellefsen. The church seats about 320 people. History The first church in Storfjord was built in 1917. It was a school house from 1911 that was renovated and expanded in 1917 to make it into a church. That building was located about northwest of the present church site. That building was jointly used as a school and a church for many years.
