Nepean Sportsplex is a sports facility in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 1701 Woodroffe Avenue north of the Ottawa Greenbelt, near the former Confederation High School along OC Transpo routes 74 and 75 in the former city of Nepean. This is the home arena to the Nepean Raiders hockey team of the Central Canada Hockey League. History Nepean Sportsplex was built in 1973 as a central facility for the former city of Nepean. The site contains an athletics centre (including fitness room) & gym, baseball, soccer and football fields, 4 squash courts, convention space, swimming pools, lawn bowling, 10 curling sheets, and three ice rinks including a 3000-seat arena. In addition to nearby neighbourhoods, the Sportsplex served the community of Barrhaven until the Walter Baker Sports Centre was constructed in 1980. The 2000 Nokia Cup, southern Ontario men's provincial curling championship was held February 7-13 at the Steve Yzerman Arena at the Nepean Sportsplex in Nepean, Ontario. The winning rink of Peter Corner, Todd Brandwood, Drew Macklin and Dwayne Pyper from Hamilton would go on to represent Ontario at the 2000 Labatt Brier in Saskatoon. In the final, Peter Corner and his Hamilton rink defeated his cousin and former teammate, Wayne Middaugh's Toronto rink, 6–4. The game began on a bad note for Middaugh who was heavy on his draw attempt in the first end, giving up a steal of one to Corner. Middaugh gave up another steal in the eighth end after coming up light on a draw, to go down 5–3. The teams traded singles in the next two ends for a 6 to 4 final score. The Quebec Junior Football League (QJFL) is a junior Canadian football competition held in Quebec, Canada since 1970, as a successor to the Quebec Juvenile Football League. It began competition as a conference of the Canadian Junior Football League from which it eventually withdrew. Upon withdrawal from the CJFL, the QJFL incorporated teams from the Ottawa, Ontario region and created the league as it stands today. The Ottawa Junior Riders are a Canadian football team based in the Nepean area of Ottawa that plays in the Quebec Junior Football League. The Junior Riders play at the Nepean Sportsplex, but have previously called Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park their home. History The team began operations in 1995 as the Gloucester Redskins, and operated as such until the conclusion of the 1996 QJFL season.
