Sporting CP (basketball)
Sporting Clube de Portugal, commonly known as Sporting CP or Sporting Portugal, is a professional basketball team based in Lisbon, Portugal, which represents the sport's section within parent club Sporting CP. The team competes in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB), the top-tier domestic league, and plays its home matches at Pavilhão João Rocha. The current head coach is Luís Magalhães. History Basketball was introduced in Sporting Clube de Portugal in 1927. In 1995, basketball stopped being one of the sports practiced in the club, returning in 2012, just with the women's team. In 2019, the men's team was refounded after 24 years. Sporting submitted a proposal to go directly into the 2019–20 Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol with their men's team. In a league meeting in November of 2018 between all the league teams, Sporting's acceptance into the LPB was confirmed. Liga Portuguesa De Basquetebol
The Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol ( en, Portuguese Basketball League), also known as Liga Betclic for sponsorship reasons, is the top men's professional club basketball league in Portugal. History From the 2008–09 season onward, the competition has been again organised by the Federação Portuguesa de Basquetebol (Portuguese Basketball Federation) after not having been for 13 seasons. This was caused by the fold of the LPB after many years of financial problems, with the league now being a semi-professional league. Pavilhão João Rocha
Pavilhão João Rocha is a multi-sports pavilion located in Lisbon, next to the Estádio José Alvalade and it is the home of Sporting CP sports. The pavilion is named after João Rocha, a former club president who remained in office from September 1973 to October 1986. The inauguration took place on the day June 21, 2017. History Precedents In 1975, João Rocha, president of the club at the time, advanced with the project to create a sports complex near the Estádio José Alvalade (1956). On October 14, 1976, the Pavilion of Alvalade was born. This was, in fact, a sports complex, with 4 thousand square meters and three enclosures: the main pavilion, with capacity for 5000 spectators, and two smaller pavilions used for training. However, the work saw its life shortened dramatically due to the growth of the city of Lisbon and its transport network. Luís Manuel Magalhães (; born 1958) is a Portuguese-Angolan basketball coach. He is a former head coach of the Angola national basketball team. He succeeded Portuguese-Angolan native Alberto Carvalho in 2009, and coached Angola at the FIBA Africa Championship 2009, where the team won its seventh consecutive African championship. Prior to moving to Angola, Magalhães was one of the best coaches in Portuguese basketball. He led three teams to the Portuguese Basketball Premier League title - Portugal Telecom (2000–01, 2001–02, 2002–03), FC Porto (2003–04), and Ovarense (2006–07). Basketball

Sporting Clube de Portugal, founded Sporting Club de Portugal (), otherwise referred to as Sporting CP, often known abroad as Sporting Lisbon , is a Portuguese professional sports club based in Lisbon. It is best known for the professional football team playing in the Primeira Liga, the top flight of Portuguese football. 2019–20 LPB Season
The 2019–20 LPB season was the 87th season of the premier Portuguese basketball league and the 12th season under the current Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB) format. For sponsorship reasons, the league was also known as Liga Placard. On 29 April 2020, the FPB declared the season was void because of the COVID-19 pandemic. No champion was named and there was no relegation. Format Fourteen teams played a double-legged regular season. The eight first teams joined the playoffs while teams 9 to 12 played for avoiding relegation. The loser of this second playoff was relegated with the two last qualified teams. Teams Barreirense Optimize and Maia promoted from Proliga and replaced Imortal, last qualified team in the last season. Sporting CP, refounded 24 years later, joined directly the top tier after the unanimous approval of the league clubs. Estádio José Alvalade
Estádio José Alvalade is a football stadium in Lisbon, Portugal, home of Sporting Clube de Portugal. It was built adjacent to the site of the older stadium. The stadium is named after José Alvalade (1885–1918), the founder and first club member of Sporting CP in the early twentieth century. Origin The previous José Alvalade Stadium was opened on 10 June 1956. Plans by Sporting CP to modernize the club in the late 1990s coincided with the decision to award Portugal the right to host UEFA Euro 2004, and the decision was made to build a new stadium, with construction beginning on 15 January 2001. João António dos Anjos Rocha was an entrepreneur and Portuguese sports manager. He was president of Sporting CP between September 7, 1973 and October 3, 1986. Portuguese Basketball League Cup
The Portuguese Basketball League Cup (Taça da Liga) is a competition for Portuguese teams that play in LPB. It was played by the clubs of the former LCB, which was a professional league. After the LCB folded in 2008, the League Cup ended as well.
