Spejbl And Hurvínek Theatre
Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre ( cs, Divadlo Spejbla a Hurvínka) is a puppet theatre located in Prague, Czech Republic. Founded in 1930 by puppeteer Josef Skupa, Spejbl and Hurvínek was the first professional puppet theatre established in Czechoslovakia and the present-day Czech Republic. Helena Štáchová, a puppeteer who played the well known roles of Manicka and Mrs Katerina in the company, served as the head of Spejbl and Hurvínek from 1996 until her death in 2017, following Miloš Kirschner (1956/1966-1996) and founder Josef Skupa (1930-1956). Prague 6, formally the municipal district Prague 6 (''Městská část Praha 6''), is the largest Prague district. It is located in the north-west of Prague. It covers 41.54 km² and has 100,600 inhabitants (31.12.2008). The administrative district (''správní obvod'') of the same name comprises Prague 6 and municipal districts Lysolaje, Nebušice, Přední Kopanina and Suchdol. Josef Skupa
Josef Skupa (16 January 1892 in Strakonice – 8 January 1957 in Prague) was a Czech puppeteer. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and worked as stage designer in the Plzeň City Theatre, also as designer in Skoda Engineering Works. In year 1919 and 1926, respectively, he created his most famous puppets: comical father ''Spejbl'' and his rascal son ''Hurvínek''. In 1930 he set up the first modern professional puppet theatre. In 1933 he became the president of the International Puppetry Association UNIMA. During the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, Skupa performed satiric and allegorical puppet plays on hundreds of stages all over Czechoslovakia. After 1945, he moved his theatre to Prague. Helena Štáchová
Helena Štáchová (18 November 1944, Prague – 22 March 2017, Prague) was a Czech puppeteer, voice actress and playwright. Štáchová served as the head and director of the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre (S+H), which opened in 1930 as former Czechoslovakia's first professional puppet theatre, from 1996 until she died in 2017. She also provided the voice of popular puppets, Mánička and Mrs. Kateřina, who are the female equivalents of the Spejbl and Hurvínek puppet characters. In addition, Štáchová worked as a voice actress as well. Notably, Štáchová provided the Czech language-voice of Lisa Simpson on the Czech version of the American animated sitcom, ''The Simpsons''. Spejbl And Hurvínek
Spejbl and Hurvínek (/s-payble & hoor-vee-neck/) is a Czech puppet comedy duo. The characters were conceived by Czech puppeteer Josef Skupa. Throughout the years the two characters have gained international success. They have released many comedy albums, had their own television show and feature film ''Harvie and the Magic Museum''. Each album usually contains one story, about the dim-witted father Josef Spejbl, and his son Hurvínek, who live with another family in the same apartment. Later on, the duo was accompanied by another family, Ms. Kateřina and her daughter Mánička. All four live with the dog Žeryk who has the ability to bark words.
