CNR Spadina Roundhouse
The CNR Spadina Roundhouse was owned by the Canadian National Railway, built in 1928 (by Anglin-Norcross of Montreal). The purpose of Spadina Roundhouse was the pretrip inspection, service and repairing of the motive power of passenger trains, including locomotives and Budd Rail Diesel Cars terminating, or originating at Toronto Union Station. Spadina Roundhouse was located in the rail yard, south of Front Street, on the east side of Spadina Avenue. Other facilities included a wheel shop, passenger car repair track and paint shop. A coach yard was located west of Spadina Avenue. The Spadina Roundhouse and the Canadian Pacific Railway John Street Roundhouse, now the home of the Steam Whistle brewery, were two of hundreds of roundhouses in North America in the 1930s. Ishpatina Ridge
Ishpatina Ridge is the highest point of land in the Canadian province of Ontario, at an estimated above sea level. Ishpatina Ridge rises approximately above the immediate area. It was only truly recognized as Ontario's highest point after topographical mapping by the Government of Canada revealed this fact in the 1970s. Before then, the more popular Maple Mountain was thought to be higher. The ridge lies in Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park. Due to its remote location, Ishpatina Ridge is a challenge to reach. The closest major highway, Highway 560, is more than 30 km north. There are a few logging roads and trails in the remote area, but they are difficult to travel in poor weather. The most popular approach route to Ishpatina is by canoe/portage via a logging road to the south out of the town of Capreol north of Sudbury. Spadina Crescent Bridge (Saskatoon)
Spadina Crescent Bridge is a deck arch bridge that spans a ravine in City Park along Spadina Crescent in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The bridge was constructed in 1930, replacing an earlier wooden structure. It was built by the Saskatoon Contracting Co., owned by Leon and Paul Prescesky. In 1933, a series of ponds were dug in the ravine as a Depression-era relief project, meant to beautify "Central Park", as the area was known as then. The pond system was extended in the 1950s, but has since been filled in. The remaining ravine still serves as an outlet for storm water. Spadina—Fort York is a federal electoral district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Spadina—Fort York was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. Trinity—Spadina was a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1999. The electoral district was created in 1999 when provincial ridings were defined to have the same borders as federal ridings. It generally encompasses the western portion of Downtown Toronto. Trinity—Spadina was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 2015. It generally encompassed the western portion of Downtown Toronto. Its federal Member of Parliament (MP) was Olivia Chow of the New Democratic Party. She defeated Tony Ianno of the Liberal Party of Canada in the January 23, 2006 election. On March 12, 2014, Chow resigned from her seat in order to run for the 2014 Toronto mayoral election, and the seat was won by Adam Vaughan, in a by-election. Spadina (electoral District)
Spadina was a Canadian electoral district that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1935 to 1988. It covered a portion of the western-central Toronto, Ontario. Its name comes from the Spadina Avenue, which runs through the heart of the riding. It was formed in 1933 from portions of Toronto Northeast, Toronto Northwest, Toronto West Centre, and Toronto South. Its boundaries changed repeatedly over the years, when it created it stretched far north to the edge of the city boundaries. As this northern portion of became more populated it was split off into other ridings. Its eastern and western boundaries were more consistent, with it stretching from John Street in the east to Bathurst Street in the west. Spadina–Front GO Station (also referred to as Spadina GO Station) is a planned GO Transit train station to be built by Metrolinx in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as part of the approved GO Transit Regional Express Rail. It will be situated downtown, south of Front Street between Spadina Avenue and Bathurst Street near office and residential towers. The station will be adjacent to the future Rail Deck Park, an urban park proposed by the City of Toronto. Spadina Museum: Historic House & Gardens, also known as Spadina House (), is a historic mansion at 285 Spadina Road in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that is now a historic house museum operated by the City of Toronto's Economic Development & Culture division. The museum preserves the house much as it existed and developed historically. The art, decor and architecture of the house used to reflect the contemporary styles of the 1860s through the 1930s, including Victorian, Edwardian, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Colonial Revival styles. The museum closed for a year for extensive interior and exterior renovations. When it re-opened to the public on October 24, 2010, it was decorated in the style of the inter-war era of the 1920s and 1930s. Spadina (TTC)
Spadina is a subway station on Line 1 Yonge–University and Line 2 Bloor–Danforth in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located on Spadina Road, north of Bloor Street West. It is one of only two stations open overnight, along with Union station. Wi-Fi service is available at this station. The station consists of two separate sections, one for each line, at the same level and 150 metres apart. The north–south platforms, which opened in 1978, were originally planned as a separate station, but the TTC decided to join to the existing 1966 east–west station with a pedestrian tunnel containing a pair of long moving walkways. The cost of the moving walkways themselves became an issue when they became due for refurbishment or replacement , and they were shut down and ultimately removed in 2004, leaving the corridor as a simple underground walkway.
