South Wales Premiership
The South Wales Premiership is the league for amateur clubs in southern Wales. Previously it was part of the Rugby League Conference but became standalone in 2012. History The Rugby League Conference was founded in 1997 as the ''Southern Conference'', a 10-team pilot league for teams in the South of England and English Midlands. It expanded into Wales for the first time in 2001 when Cardiff Demons joined the South West division. After two years of just one club in South Wales, the RFL saw that it was time to expand, letting in six more open-aged sides to form the new Welsh Conference and Wales gained its own division for the first time. The Premier Division were set up in 2005 for teams who had achieved a certain playing standard and were able to travel further afield to find stronger opposition. National Conference League
The National Conference League (known as the Kingstone Press National Conference League for sponsorship reasons) is the top English amateur rugby league competition in the Rugby Football League pyramid, and as such is the leading amateur rugby league competition in England. Since 2012, the National Conference operates over a summer season in line with the professional game. History The league was founded as the BARLA National League for the 1986–87 season with 10 teams: Dudley Hill, Egremont Rangers, Heworth, Leigh Miners Welfare (now Leigh Miners Rangers), Milford Marlins, Millom, Pilkington Recs, West Hull, Wigan St Patrick's and Woolston Rovers. Blackwood Bulldogs were a rugby league team based in Blackwood, Caerphilly, Wales. They played in the Welsh Championship of the Rugby League Conference. History ''Blackwood Bulldogs'' were formed in the summer of 2006 at Glan-yr-Afon Park, the home of Blackwood RFC. They joined the Eastern Division of the Welsh Premier. The Bulldogs first competitive match was at the Scott McRorie rugby league nines competition held at Glan-yr-Afon Park on 28 May 2006. The Welsh Premier reformed as one division in 2007. Blackwood won the Welsh Premier in 2009 beating Bridgend Blue Bulls 38 - 22 in the Grand Final. Neath Port Talbot Steelers
Neath Port Talbot Steelers were a rugby league team based in Port Talbot, West Glamorgan. They played in the Welsh Premier division of the Rugby League Conference at Aberavon Green Stars RFC. History ''Aberavon Fighting Irish'' were formed in 2003 and joined the newly formed Welsh division of the Rugby League Conference. The club rebranded as ''Neath Port Talbot Steelers'' in 2007. The Steelers soldiered through many storms only to record two wins during the league fixtures, however, this was enough to cement a place in the first round of the play-offs. Dinefwr Sharks
Dinefwr Sharks RLFC were a rugby league side based in Ammanford, South-West Wales. History ''West Wales Sharks'' were formed in the spring of 2006 and joined the Rugby League Conference Welsh Division West. The Sharks played eight games and there were heavy losses in the matches against Bridgend Blue Bulls but they ended their season with two wins against Aberavon Fighting Irish and Swansea Valley Miners. In 2007, the Sharks moved to Furnace United RFC to play their home fixtures. The club played in the Rugby League Conference Welsh Premier division playing seven rounds from May to July. In the first match they lost to the Valley Cougars 12-74 but then won their next match 33-32 against the Cardiff Demons. But they then lost their remaining five matches including a tight 34-30 loss against Torfaen Tigers. Just one win meant that they had finished bottom of the league. CPC Bears
CPC Bears were a rugby league club based in Carmarthen and are the regional side for Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. They played in the Welsh Premier Division of the Rugby League Conference. History West Wales Sharks were formed in the spring of 2006 and joined the Rugby League Conference. They became the Dinefwr Sharks for the 2009 season. West Wales Wild Boars joined the Conference in 2009. ''CPC Bears RL'' was formed in 2010, as the regional side for Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion in the Welsh Premier Division with Dinefwr Sharks and West Wales Wild Boars competing in the Championship. Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil (; cy, Merthyr Tudful ) is the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, Wales, administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. It is about north of Cardiff. Tydfil Wildcats Rugby League is a Rugby league club based in Merthyr Tydfil. The club colours are yellow and blue. The home ground was the cage in Troedyrhiw until September 2010 but relocated for the 2011 season to Dowlais RFC. The Wildcats play in the Wales Rugby League conference. History Summer season 2008 The club started with two teams. Under 13s and Under 15s. The first match played by the club was a close match between at Under 15s between Cardiff Demons and Tydfil Wildcats. On the same day the Under 13s played their first match at the Brewery Field Bridgend as a curtain raiser to a Celtic Crusaders in the Super League. Ammanford ( cy, Rhydaman) is a town and community in Carmarthenshire, Wales, with a population of 5,411 at the 2011 census. It is a former coal mining town. The built-up area had a population of 7,945 with the wider urban area even bigger. Bon-y-maen, sometimes spelt ''Bonymaen'', ( cy, Bôn-y-maen) is a community in Swansea, Wales located about north east of Swansea city centre. It falls within the coterminous Bonymaen ward for elections to Swansea Council.
