Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria. It was the trading name of the Go Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. The PTV began operating on 2 April 2012, taking over many of the responsibilities previously exercised by the Director of Public Transport and the Department of Transport. The 1999 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 18 September 1999, was for the 54th Parliament of Victoria. It was held in the Australian state of Victoria to elect the 88 members of the state's Legislative Assembly and 22 members of the 44-member Legislative Council. The Liberal– National Coalition led by Jeff Kennett and Pat McNamara, which had held majority government since the 1996 election, lost 15 seats and its majority due mainly to a swing against it in rural and regional Victoria. Whittlesea Railway Station, Melbourne
Whittlesea was the original terminus station on the Whittlesea line, located in Victoria, Australia. It opened in 1889, operating until the closure of the line in 1959. History Despite its proximity to Melbourne, the town of Whittlesea had a small population, as did the other settlements served by the line beyond the electrified Melbourne suburban railway system. The station included a siding which connected to the Kinglake timber tramway. The freight service to Whittlesea was closed in the mid 1950s, with the passenger service remaining until the line beyond Lalor was closed on 29 November 1959. The Diesel Electric Rail Motor (DERM) was a railmotor operated by the Victorian Railways of Australia. History Originally built as a petrol electric rail motor (PERM), they were the longest-lived rail motor on the Victorian Railways, with the first entering service in 1928 and the last being withdrawn in 1991. The rail motor was a standard product of the US Electro-Motive Corporation (a predecessor of Electro-Motive Diesel) and built between 1924 and 1932, albeit to a smaller loading gauge and wider track gauge. South Morang Railway Station (former)
South Morang was a steam-era railway station on the Whittlesea line, which operated until the closure of the line beyond Lalor station on 28 November 1959, following the electrification of the line to Lalor. The line to Epping station was electrified and re-opened on 30 November 1964, and the remaining section of track, from Epping to Whittlesea, was dismantled in the 1970s, although the former right-of-way remained intact. All that remained of the original South Morang station was the platform mound. A new South Morang station opened on 22 April 2012, at the terminus of an extension of the Epping line. The new station was two kilometres closer to Epping than the former station, being arguably in Mill Park or Epping.
