Société De Transport De Sherbrooke
Société de transport de Sherbrooke (STS) provides public transit services to Sherbrooke, the only major city in the Eastern Townships (Estrie) region of Quebec, Canada. After the amalgamation of what are now neighbouring boroughs into a regional municipality in 2002, service was expanded to cover the entire city with 32 routes and a fleet of more than 80 buses. STS is owned and operated by the city. Sherbrooke ( ; ) is a city in southern Quebec, Canada. It is at the confluence of the Saint-François and Magog rivers in the heart of the Estrie administrative region. Sherbrooke is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Sherbrooke. Eastern Townships
The Eastern Townships (french: Cantons de l'Est) is an historical administrative region in southeastern Quebec, Canada. It lies between the St. Lawrence Lowlands and the American border, and extends from Granby in the southwest, to Drummondville in the northeast. Since 1987, most of the area is within the administrative region Estrie, and the term Eastern Townships is now used in tourist literature. The name derives from there also being western townships in Ontario. Estrie
Estrie () is an administrative region of Quebec that comprises the Eastern Townships. ''Estrie'', a French neologism, was coined as a derivative of ''est'', "east". Originally settled by anglophones, today it is about 90 per cent francophone. Anglophones are concentrated in Lennoxville, home of the region's only English-speaking university, Bishop's University. The Eastern Townships School Board runs 20 elementary schools, three high schools, and a learning centre. The region originally consisted of 6 RCM's. Carrefour de l'Estrie is a shopping centre located in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Its anchors include Hudson's Bay, Super C, Toys "R" Us, Shoppers Drug Mart, La Maison Simons, and Marshall's. History Carrefour de l'Estrie opened in 1973 with around 100 stores including Eaton's, Pascal, Sears and Steinberg's. In 1985, Carrefour de l'Estrie was expanded at the cost of 10 million $ to include a new mall wing of 60 tenants, a food court and the first ever two-level store from the Zellers chain. When Eaton's went bankrupt, a portion of the space was transformed into The Bay and the rest was shared between the boutiques Gap and Esprit. Bishop's University
Bishop's University (french: Université Bishop's) is a small English-language liberal arts university in Lennoxville, a borough of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. The founder of the institution was the Anglican Bishop of Quebec, George Mountain, who also served as the first principal of McGill University. It is one of three universities in the province of Quebec that teach primarily in English (the others being McGill University and Concordia University, both in Montreal). It began its foundation by absorbing the Lennoxville Classical School as Bishop's College School in the 1840s. The college was formally founded in 1843 and received a royal charter from Queen Victoria in 1853.
