Socialist Alternative Politics
The Socialist Alternative Politics (Dutch: ''Socialistische Alternatieve Politiek,'' or SAP) is a Trotskyist political group in the Netherlands without parliamentary representation. History Early roots of the SAP The SAP traces back its roots to the beginning of the Trotskyist movement in the Netherlands. In 1945 the Revolutionary Communist Party was founded as the Dutch member of the Fourth International. However the party was unsuccessful as an independent party and was disbanded in 1952. The former RCP members opted for an entryist tactic in the PvdA. They formed the Social Democratic Centre (SDC) as an internal pressure group to move the PvdA leftwards. However the SDC membership was expelled from the PvdA in 1959. This severely weakened the Dutch section of the Fourth International. Pacifist Socialist Party
The Pacifist Socialist Party ( nl, Pacifistisch Socialistische Partij, PSP) was a Democratic socialism, democratic socialist Politics of the Netherlands, Dutch socialism, socialist political party. The PSP played a small role in Dutch politics. It is one of the predecessors of the GroenLinks, GreenLeft. Party history Before 1957 In 1955 a group of "politically homeless" activists had formed. The group mainly consisted of former members of the Partij van de Arbeid, Labour Party (PvdA) and the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN). They had left the PvdA over Politionele acties, the military intervention against the Indonesian National Revolution, Indonesian independence movement and the Labour party's support for NATO. The Political Party of Radicals ( nl, Politieke Partij Radikalen, PPR) was a progressive Christian and green political party in the Netherlands. The PPR played a relatively small role in Dutch politics and merged with other left-wing parties to form GreenLeft (Dutch: GroenLinks) in 1991. History Before 1968 The foundation of the PPR is linked to formation of the De Jong cabinet and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA). After the 1967 general election, it became clear that a centre-right cabinet would be formed by the Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP) and Christian Historical Union (CHU), the Catholic People's Party (KVP) and the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). The Greens (DG, ''De Groenen'') is a political party in the Netherlands. It advocates for Green politics, an unconditional basic income and emphasises its anti-militarism. History A group of Dutch environmentalists led by Marten Bierman founded The Greens on 17 December 1983. They entered the European elections under the name "European Greens" since the name "The Greens" was controlled by Bas de Gaay Fortman. The party's foundation was supported by the Francophone Belgian green party Ecolo, while the German Greens supported the Green Progressive Accord. The party became involved in the formation of the Coordination of European Green Parties. It won 1.3% of vote in the 1984 European parliament election below the threshold of 4% for a seat. International Institute For Research And Education
The International Institute for Research and Education (IIRE) is a research and educational centre based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It conducts training and publishes research for and by progressive activists around the world. The institute was established in Brussels in 1982 by royal charter. It relocated to Amsterdam in the late 1980s. The IIRE is often associated with the ideas of two of its founding Fellows. Ernest Mandel and Livio Maitan were leaders of the Fourth International in the decades after the Second World War. Their writings have both been published by the institute. The Federation of Dutch Trade Unions ( nl, Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging, FNV) is a national trade union centre in the Netherlands. In addition to member unions, workers in many sectors can join the FNV directly. History The FNV was founded in 1976 from the merger of the Dutch Catholic Trade Union Federation (NKV) and the social-democratic Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (NVV). The Protestant Christian National Trade Union Federation (CNV) originally also participated in the talks, but it refused to fully merge into a new union. The federation was founded because of declining membership, due to depillarisation and increasing political polarisation between left and right. International Socialists ( nl, Internationale Socialisten, abbreviated IS) is a revolutionary, Trotskyist organisation in the Netherlands. It is part of the International Socialist Tendency led by the British Socialist Workers Party. History The International Socialists were founded in 1988 as ''Groep Internationale Socialisten'' (GIS). GreenLeft
GroenLinks (, ) is a green political party in the Netherlands. It was formed on 1 March 1989 from the merger of four left-wing parties: the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Pacifist Socialist Party, the Political Party of Radicals and the Evangelical People's Party, which shared left-wing and progressive ideals and earlier co-operated in Regenboog-coalition for the 1989 European Parliament election. After disappointing results in the 1989 and 1994 general elections, the nascent party fared particularly well in the 1998 and 2002 elections. The party's leader at that time, Paul Rosenmöller, was seen as the unofficial Leader of the Opposition against the First Kok cabinet, a purple government. The Evangelical People's Party ( nl, Evangelische Volkspartij, EVP) was a minor progressive Protestant political party in the Netherlands. It is one of the predecessor parties of the modern-day GreenLeft. History The EVP was founded in March 1981 by members of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), which were united in the group "Not by Bread Alone" (''Niet bij Brood Alleen'') and members of the Evangelical Progressive Party, which had previously left the Protestant Anti-Revolutionary Party. Both groups were opposed to the formation of the CDA and its conservative course.
