Snæfell Men's Basketball
Snæfell men's basketball, commonly known as Snæfell, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Snæfell, based in Stykkishólmur, Iceland. History Snæfell won its first and only national championship in 2010, when it defeated Keflavík men's basketball, Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild karla finals. It won the Icelandic Men's Basketball Cup, Icelandic Basketball Cup in 2008 and 2010. On 27 September 2020, Snæfell withdrew its men's team from competition due to lack of players and financial difficulties. Stykkishólmur
Stykkishólmur () is a town and municipality situated in the western part of Iceland, in the northern part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is a center of services and commerce for the area. Most of the people make their living from fishing and tourism. A ferry called ''Baldur'' goes over the Breiðafjörður fjord to the Westfjords. It also is the gateway to Flatey. The origin of Stykkishólmur can be traced to its natural harbor. The location became an important trading post early in Iceland's history: the first trading post in Stykkishólmur is traced back to the mid-16th century, even before Denmark implemented the Danish–Icelandic Trade Monopoly (1602 – 1787). Bárður Eyþórsson
Bárður Eyþórsson (born 10 January 1968) is an Icelandic former basketball coach and player. He was twice named the coach of the year of the men's Úrvalsdeild, in the 2003–04 season and in the 2005–06 season, when he coached the Snæfell. Playing career Club career Bárður came up through the junior ranks of Snæfell but moved to Valur at the age of sixteen and played his first senior match in 1986. He played 191 games in the Úrvalsdeild karla from 1986 to 2000 and averaged 14.6 points per game. National team Bárður played three games for the Icelandic national basketball team from 1991 to 1992. Coaching career Bárður was hired as the head coach of Snæfell men's team in 2000. Sverrir Þór Sverrisson
Sverrir Þór Sverrisson (born 23 May 1975) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player for the Icelandic national basketball team. He previously coached Keflavík women's team where he won the national championship in 2017. As a coach he has won the Icelandic women's championship three times and the men's national championship once. Coaching career Sverrir retired from top level play in 2010 and took over as head coach of Njarðvík women's team. He led them to the national championship in 2012. In January 2016, Sverrir was hired as the head coach of Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Keflavík, replacing Margrét Sturlaugsdóttir. Sigurður Þorvaldsson
Sigurður Ágúst Þorvaldsson (born 25 November 1980) is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national team. During his career, he won the Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Cup four times each. He was a four-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team member and in 2005 he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year. In 2010, Sigurður was found guilty of rape and sentenced to two years in prison. Shawn Jamison (born October 10, 1969) is a basketball coach and former professional player, who last played in England for the Milton Keynes Lions. The 6 foot, 8 inch centre's former teams include the world famous Harlem Globetrotters (1995–96), Geneve Devils (2000–01) and Thames Valley Tigers (2001–02). College career Jamison played college basketball for San Diego State from 1989 to 1990 where he averaged 16.8 points in 31 games. Ryan Anthony Amoroso (born July 12, 1985) is an American basketball player who last played for Comunicaciones Mercedes in the Argentinian Torneo Nacional de Ascenso. He was the starting power forward for the Aztecs of San Diego State University. High school career Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ryan Amoroso attended Burnsville Senior High School in Burnsville, Minnesota. Ríkharður Hrafnkelsson (born 30 April 1957) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of Icelandic national team. Justin Christopher Shouse (born 16 September 1981) is an American and Icelandic former basketball player and coach. He won the Icelandic Cup four times and was named the Cup Finals MVP in 2015. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Foreign Player of the year in 2010 and, after becoming a naturalized Icelandic citizen, he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the year in 2012 and 2013. Jón Ólafur Jónsson (born 14 July 1981), also known as Nonni Mæju, is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. He was a key player on the Snæfell team that won the Icelandic championship, the Icelandic Basketball Cup, the Icelandic Supercup and the Icelandic Company Cup in 2010. Jeb Ivey
Jeb Ivey (born November 7, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player. He won the Icelandic championship twice, with Njarðvík in 2006 and with Snæfell in 2010, and the Finnish championship twice, with Nilan Bisons Loimaa in 2012 and 2013 where he was named the Korisliiga Finals MVP both times. From September 24, 2010 to December 6, 2013 he scored a three pointer in 177 consecutive games, setting a world record according to Guinness World Records. Career In 2018, Ivey returned to Njarðvík where he last played 11-years prior. He retired from basketball following Njarðvík's first round loss against ÍR in the 2019 Úrvalsdeild playoffs. Jay L. Threatt (born August 8, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for FC Porto in the Portuguese Basketball League. He played for the Delaware State Hornets for three seasons and twice led the NCAA in steals. He was the first ever Division I player to hold at least a share of the steals title in more than one season. Ívar Ásgrímsson
Ívar Ásgrímsson (born 11 April 1965) is an Icelandic basketball coach and the former head coach of the Icelandic women's national basketball team. He led Haukar to the national men's finals in 2016 where they lost to KR. Playing career Club career Ívar played for 14 seasons in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild, 11 of them with Haukar where he won the Icelandic Basketball Cup in 1985, 1986 and 1996. He won the national championship in 1988 with Haukar after beating Njarðvík in the finals.
