Sigurður Þorvaldsson
Sigurður Ágúst Þorvaldsson (born 25 November 1980) is an Icelandic basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national team. During his career, he won the Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Cup four times each. He was a four-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team member and in 2005 he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year. In 2010, Sigurður was found guilty of rape and sentenced to two years in prison. Basketball career After spending his first five seasons with ÍR and Snæfell, Sigurður signed with Woon!Aris Leeuwarden in Netherlands in 2005. Forward (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Over time, as more specialized roles developed, each of the guards and forwards came to be differentiated, and today each of the five positions are known by unique names, each of which has also been assigned a number: point guard (PG) or 1, the shooting guard (SG) or 2, the small forward (SF) or 3, the power forward (PF) or 4, and the center (C) or 5. Icelandic Basketball League System
The Icelandic basketball league system, or Icelandic basketball league pyramid, is a series of interconnected competitions for basketball clubs in Iceland. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. Men There are currently four different competitions on the pyramid - the 1st tier Úrvalsdeild, the 2nd tier Division I, the 3rd tier Division II, and the 4th tier Division III. Supreme Court Of Iceland
The Supreme Court of Iceland (, lit. ''Highest Court of Iceland'') is the final court of appeal in the judiciary of Iceland. It is also the oldest of the current courts of law in Iceland and the highest of the three Icelandic court branches, the others being the District Courts of Iceland and the Court of Appeal (Landsréttur). Notwithstanding the Court not being mentioned by name in the Constitution of Iceland, but only its justices, it is validated in the Courts Act No. 50/2016. The 2017–18 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 67th season of the Úrvalsdeild, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on October 5, 2017 and ended on April 28, 2018. KR won its fifth title in a row by defeating Tindastóll 3–1 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent once home and once away for a total of 22 games.
