Justin Shouse
Justin Christopher Shouse (born 16 September 1981) is an American and Icelandic former basketball player and coach. He won the Icelandic Cup four times and was named the Cup Finals MVP in 2015. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Foreign Player of the year in 2010 and, after becoming a naturalized Icelandic citizen, he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the year in 2012 and 2013. He retired in 2017 as the Úrvalsdeild's all time leader in assists, a record he held until January 2024 when it was broken by Hörður Axel Vilhjálmsson. High School career From 1997-2000, Shouse played in 109 games for the McDowell Trojans of Erie, Pa. As a junior (1998-99), Shouse led McDowell to a 26-5 record including a 52-48 overtime win over nationally-ranked New Castle on their way to the school's only state final appearance. The 2017–18 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 67th season of the Úrvalsdeild, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on October 5, 2017 and ended on April 28, 2018. KR won its fifth title in a row by defeating Tindastóll 3–1 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent once home and once away for a total of 22 games. The top eight teams qualified for the championship playoffs whilst the two last qualified were relegated to Division 1. Hrafn Kristjánsson
Hrafn Kristjánsson is an Icelandic former basketball coach and player. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Coach of the Year in the 2010–11 season, when he won the Icelandic championship with the KR. As a coach he has also won the Icelandic Basketball Cup two times (2011, 2015) and Icelandic Division I three times (2003, 2005, 2007). As a player he played 139 games in the Úrvalsdeild with KR and KFÍ, winning the national championship in 1990. Playing career Hrafn came up through the junior ranks of KR. He played his first games with the senior team during the 1988–1989 Úrvalsdeild season. The following season he appeared in 5 games for which went on to win the 1990 Icelandic championship. The Icelandic Men's Basketball Company Cup, commonly known as the Men's Company Cup (Icelandic: Fyrirtækjabikar karla), was an annual basketball competition between clubs in Iceland that was organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. It was Iceland's second-tier cup competition, and is not to be confused with Iceland's first-tier cup competition, the Icelandic Cup. History and format The Company Cup was founded in 1996 and its first edition, bearing the name ''Lengjubikarinn'' after its sponsor ''Lengjan'', took place in October and November that year. A player-coach (also playing coach, captain-coach, or player-manager) is a member of a sports team who simultaneously holds both playing and coaching duties. A player-coach may be a head coach or an assistant coach. They may make changes to the squad and also play on the team. Hörður Axel Vilhjálmsson (born 18 December 1988) is an Icelandic basketball player for Álftanes of the Úrvalsdeild karla and the Icelandic national team. He is the Úrvalsdeild karla all-time leader in assists. Professional career Hörður began his senior team career at the age of 15 with Fjölnir Reykjavík. At 17, he moved to Spain to play for Gran Canaria, but returned shortly later to Iceland and joined Njarðvík. He started the 2008–2009 season with Club Melilla but returned to Iceland again and finished the season Úrvalsdeild club Keflavík. In 2009 he set the Úrvalsdeild record for most minutes played in a single game when he played all 60 minutes in a quadruple overtime game against KR. In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads directly to a score by field goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the basket. An assist is also credited when a basket is awarded due to defensive goaltending. There is some judgment involved in deciding whether a passer should be credited with an assist.
