Silvia Costa (athlete)
Silvia Costa Acosta-Martínez (born May 4, 1964, in La Palma, Cuba, La Palma, Pinar del Río Province) is a former high jumper from Cuba. Career Costa is most known for winning medals at the 1985 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 1993 World Championships in Athletics. She also has three medals from the Summer Universiade. Her personal best jump (set in 1989) is , which makes her a member of the High jump#Female two metres club, female two metres club and puts her ninth in the all-time performers list. She is also a three-time silver medallist at the Pan American Games. Personal life Costa is married to Spanish citizen José Sanleandro. 1985 Summer Universiade
The 1985 Summer Universiade, also known as the XIII Summer Universiade, took place in Kobe, Japan. Mascot The mascot of the Kobe Universiade, "Unitan", designed by Osamu Tezuka, is a red-crested white crane, symbolic of Japan and a good omen. The name was chosen from some 8,000 suggestions received from throughout the country. The name is derived from a combination of 'uni' from 'Universiade' and 'tan' from the Japanese name for red-crested crane, namely 'tancho-tsuru'. Gender test The sex chromatin test was used at these games to decide on participants' gender; Spanish hurdler Maria José Martínez-Patiño was declared a man and thus ruled ineligible for the women's events. Xalapa

The high jump is a track and field event in which competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it. In its modern, most-practiced format, a bar is placed between two standards with a crash mat for landing.
