Sibu Municipal Council
The Sibu Municipal Council (Malay: ''Majlis Perbandaran Sibu'', abbreviated SMC or MPS) is the municipal council which administers the district of Sibu in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. History Sibu Municipal Board Sibu Municipal Board was founded on 31 January 1925 during the period of Kingdom of Sarawak. Resident of the third division of Sarawak was the chairman of the municipal board. The municipal officer at that time was Sibu District Officer. Other members of the municipal board includes Sibu Divisional Engineer, Superintendent of Sibu Lands & Surveys, and Sibu Divisional Medical Officer. "Unofficial members" which is also known as Sibu Municipal Commissioners were nominated from the leaders of various communities. Sibu
Sibu (; Foochow Romanized, Hokchew Romanized: ''Sĭ-bŭ'') is a landlocked city in the central region of Sarawak. It is the capital of Sibu District in Sibu Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The city is located on the island of Borneo and covers an area of . It is located at the confluence of the Rajang River, Rajang and Igan Rivers, some 60 kilometres from the South China Sea and approximately north-east of the state capital Kuching. Sibu is mainly populated by people of Chinese descent, mainly from Fuzhou. Other ethnic groups such as Iban people, Iban, Malays (ethnic group), Malay and Melanau people, Melanau are also present, but unlike other regions of Sarawak, they are not as significant. Lau King Howe Hospital Memorial Museum
The Lau King Howe Hospital Memorial Museum ( ms, Muzium Memorial Hospital Lau King Howe) ( Chinese : 劉欽侯醫院紀念館) is a medical museum in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia. The museum is the first and only medical museum in Malaysia. History Lau King Howe Hospital was built in 1936 by Mr Lau King Howe as the only hospital in Sibu after an approval of funds and land from the Brooke government. However, soon after the hospital was built, Mr Lau returned to China. The hospital had 400 beds and an outpatient department in 1986. After the Sibu Hospital was opened on 1 September 1994, less patients visited the hospital. Eventually, the hospital buildings were demolished in 1994 and the site converted into a commercial lot. A small museum named after the hospital at a cost of MYR450,000 was built near the original “entrance” to the hospital. It was officially opened on 3 August 1996. Robert Lau
Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chiew (; 15 September 1942 – 9 April 2010) was a Malaysian politician. He represented Sibu in the Parliament of Malaysia from 1990 until his death in 2010, and served as Deputy Minister of Transport from April 2009 until his death. Lau was also a vice-president of the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP). Background Lau was born to a poor family and his mother died when he was three years old. Tiong Thai King
Datuk Tiong Thai King (; born 4 July 1945) is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Dudong from May 2016 to December 2021 and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lanang from April 1995 to May 2013. He was a member of the federal and state opposition Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) before he quits politics in 2021. Previously he was a member of the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP), a component party of the federal and state ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition and a former component party of the federal ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
