Sibu
Sibu (; Foochow Romanized, Hokchew Romanized: ''Sĭ-bŭ'') is a landlocked city in the central region of Sarawak. It is the capital of Sibu District in Sibu Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The city is located on the island of Borneo and covers an area of . It is located at the confluence of the Rajang River, Rajang and Igan Rivers, some 60 kilometres from the South China Sea and approximately north-east of the state capital Kuching. Sibu is mainly populated by people of Chinese descent, mainly from Fuzhou. Other ethnic groups such as Iban people, Iban, Malays (ethnic group), Malay and Melanau people, Melanau are also present, but unlike other regions of Sarawak, they are not as significant. The cities population as of 2010 is 162,676. Sibu was founded by James Brooke in 1862 when he built a fort in the town to fend off attacks by the indigenous Dayak people. Tanjung Manis District
Tanjung Manis is a district, in Mukah Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The capital of the district is the Belawai town. History The Tanjung Manis District was originally named "Belawai sub-district" on 7 April 1973 and was placed under the administration of Sarikei Division. On 1 March 2002, Belawai sub-district was placed under the administration of Mukah Division. On 11 February 2008, Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) was launched. The town of Tanjung Manis is designated as halal food hub and Tanjung Manis Integrated Port was built here. On 1 August 2015, the Belawai sub-district was concurrently upgraded into a district and renamed to Tanjung Manis District. With the development of the town of Tanjung Manis, it is planned that the administrative capital of Tanjung Manis District would be moved from Belawai to Tanjung Manis town in the future. Sibu Division
Sibu Division is one of the twelve administrative divisions of Sarawak, Malaysia. It has a total area of 8,278.3 square kilometres, and is the third largest division after Kapit Division and Miri Division. The population of Sibu Division (year 2000 census) was 257,300. Ethnically, the population was mostly Iban, Chinese, Malay, and Melanau. Sibu Division consists of three districts: Sibu, Kanowit, and Selangau. The economy is largely based on timber extraction from the extensive tropical rainforest. Processed wood products, rather than log export has been given priority by the government. Agriculture is relatively minor, with oil palm and pepper the main products. Tourism, particularly ecotourism, is a growing component of the economy.
