Scouting In Guadeloupe Et Saint Martin
Scouting is active on Guadeloupe and on Saint Martin, connected administratively in the Territoire de Guadeloupe et Saint Martin of the Scouts et Guides de France. The Scouts of the islands participate in many Caribbean regional Scout camps, jamborees and other Scout activities. Scouting closely follows the program of the Scouts et Guides de France. The ''Scouts et Guides de Saint Martin'' and the ''Scouts et Guides de Guadeloupe'' are subsections of the larger regional entity. The Scout emblem incorporates elements of the old coat of arms of Guadeloupe, as well as the old arms of French Guiana and Martinique. Scouting
Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. Another widely recognized movement characteristic is the Scout uniform, by intent hiding all differences of social standing in a country and encouraging equality, with neckerchief and campaign hat or comparable headwear. Saint Martin (island)
Saint Martin (french: Saint-Martin; nl, Sint Maarten) is an island in the northeast Caribbean Sea, approximately east of Puerto Rico. The island is divided roughly 60:40 between the French Republic () and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (), but the Dutch part is more populated than the French part. The division dates to 1648. The northern French part comprises the Collectivity of Saint Martin and is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic. As part of France, the French part of the island is also part of the European Union. The southern Dutch part comprises Sint Maarten and is one of four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Scouts et Guides de France (''Scouts and Guides of France'', SGdF) is the largest Scouting and Guiding association in France. It was formed on 1 September 2004 from the merger of two Roman Catholic Scouting organizations: the Guides de France (founded in 1923) and the Scouts de France (SdF, founded 25 July 1920). Through Scoutisme Français, SGdF is a member of both WOSM and WAGGGS. SGdF claims 61,181 youth members and 27,399 volunteers in 863 local groups. It is active in the rebirth of Scouting in Ukraine and Belarus and strengthening Scouting in French Polynesia. In Scouting, a jamboree is a large gathering of Scouting, Scouts who rally at a national or international level. History The 1st World Scout Jamboree was held in 1920, and was hosted by the United Kingdom. Since then, there have been twenty-three other World Scout Jamborees, hosted in various countries, generally every four years. The 25th World Jamboree is to be held in Korea in 2023. There are also national and continental jamborees held around the world with varying frequency. Many of these events will invite and attract Scouts from overseas. Guadeloupe, a ''région'' and overseas département of France in the Caribbean, does not have an official coat of arms, however an unofficial coat of arms and a government logo are sometimes used in a similar capacity. St. Martin's history shares many commonalities with other Caribbean islands. Its earliest inhabitants were Amerindians, followed by Europeans who brought slavery to exploit commercial interests. Early history Ancient relics date the island's first settlers, probably Ciboney Indians (a subgroup of Arawaks), back to 3,500 years ago.
