Saskatchewan ( ; ) is a province in western Canada, bordered on the west by Alberta, on the north by the Northwest Territories, on the east by Manitoba, to the northeast by Nunavut, and on the south by the U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota. Saskatchewan and Alberta are the only landlocked provinces of Canada. In 2022, Saskatchewan's population was estimated at 1,205,119. 1982 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1982 Saskatchewan general election was held on April 26, 1982, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Progressive Conservative Party, led by Grant Devine, defeated the New Democratic Party government of Premier Allan Blakeney, which had governed the province since the 1971 election. The Tories won over half the popular vote, and a large majority in the legislature – the first time that the party had won an outright majority, and making Devine only the second Tory premier in the province's history. The only other time that the Tories had ever led a government was after the 1929 election, when James Anderson led a coalition government of Conservatives, Progressives and independents. The NDP vote fell to its lowest level since 1938, and the party lost 35 of its 44 seats in the legislature – the second-worst defeat of a sitting government in the province's history, behind only the Saskatchewan Liberal Party's 38-seat loss in 1944. Herman Harold Rolfes (born July 13, 1936) was a Saskatchewan educator and politician who has held provincial office, as a former member of the Saskatchewan provincial legislature. He has won a number of significant recognized awards and honours over his lifetime career. Life before politics The son of Joseph Rolfes and Josephine Heckmann, he was educated at St. Peter's College, at the Saskatoon Teacher's College and at the University of Saskatchewan. He served as principal for a number of elementary schools and as director of guidance for Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon. In 1961, Rolfes married Myrna Josephine Hopfner. Pat Atkinson
Patricia "Pat" Atkinson (born September 27, 1952) is a Canadian provincial politician. She was a Saskatchewan New Democratic Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1986 to 2011, and is currently the longest-serving female MLA in Saskatchewan's history. She was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Roy Atkinson, and received degrees in arts and education from the University of Saskatchewan. She worked as a teacher therapist and school principal for the Radius Community School in Saskatoon. Atkinson also served on the board of the Saskatoon Community Clinic. She ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Saskatchewan assembly in 1982. Atkinson was first elected in 1986, while the NDP was still in opposition.
