Sam Boodram
Samdeo "Sam" Boodram (14 July 1933 – 30 June 2020) was a Trinidadian chutney, bhajan, Indian classical and folk singer, cocoa farmer, and Kabir panthi mahant. He recorded over 6,000 songs over the span of his career. Early life Sam Boodram was born into a Hindu Indian family to Boodram Balroop and Babonie Boodram in El Dorado, Trinidad and Tobago, on 14 July 1933. His family later moved from El Dorado to Aranguez in San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. He attended the Bal Maharaj Hindu School where he learned Hindustani and was introduced to Indian singing as part of a program sponsored by Chanka Maharaj, a prominent politician and landowner. When Boodram was ten years old his family moved to Cumuto. Also, at the age of ten, he won a singing competition at his school singing the song "Puchhe Bhaiya Bharat Ram Kaha Mai". Ravi Bissambhar
Ravi Bissambhar, also known as Ravi B, (; born October 27, 1982) is a Trinidadian chutney musician. Personal life Ravi Bissambhar, born to a musical family in Sangre Grande but currently lives Cunupia, Trinidad and Tobago, attended the Sangre Grande Hindu school, North Eastern College, University of the West Indies. His parents are of Bhojpuri Indian descent. Ravi started his singing career at the age of 13. At the age of 25 he was already the lead vocalist, music director, producer and arranger for his band Karma which was founded by him together with his brother Anil Bissambhar and his sister Nisha Bissambhar. He is also a radio personality with Trinidad and Tobago's Indian radio station, 90.5fm. Ravi B's love for music and singing took him to several countries. Chutney Soca
In Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname, chutney soca music is a crossover style of music incorporating soca and calypso elements and English, Hindustani, and Hinglish lyrics, chutney music, with Western instruments such as the guitar, piano, drum set, and Indian instruments such as the dholak, harmonium, tabla, and dhantal. The term chutney soca was first coined by Drupatee Ramgoonai of Trinidad and Tobago in 1987 in her first album entitled ''Chutney Soca'', with a mix of Trinidadian English and Trinidadian Hindustani versions of the songs. The current style of spelling of the term was not established then and she spelt it as "Chatnee Soca". The following year her hit "Roll up de Tassa" was instrumental in creating a commercial market for this type of music internationally. Surujpat "Pat" Mathura, (1923 – 9 August 2007) was the longest serving radio broadcaster in Trinidad. Biography Surujpat Mathura, the son of Chandar Bahadoor Mathura and Rookmin, was working in his father's printery when he decided to embark upon a career in journalism and radio announcing. With the encouragement of his father, he started in 1947 at Radio Trinidad, where he worked for 47 years as an announcer, as well as producing radio programmes, with special emphasis on Indian art, culture and religion. Mathura's primary education started at St. Theresa's Private school at De Verteuil St., Woodbrook. Biraha
Biraha (sometimes known as Birha) is an ethnic Bhojpuri folk genre of Ahir communities in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand in India. Its place in folk songs is as important as that of ''Dwipadi'' in Sanskrit, ''Gatha'' in Prakrit and ''Barwai'' in Hindi. It is composed of two episodes. When one side says their point, the other side answers in the same verse. There is no limit to the number of quantities. The volume varies with the tune of the song. ''Bactris gasipaes'' is a species of palm native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. It is well spread in these regions, where it is often cultivated by smallholders in agroforestry systems or more rarely, in monoculture. Coffee Cherry
A coffee bean is a seed of the ''Coffea'' plant and the source for coffee. It is the pip inside the red or purple fruit often referred to as a coffee cherry. Just like ordinary cherries, the coffee fruit is also a so-called stone fruit. Even though the coffee beans are not technically beans, they are referred to as such because of their resemblance to true beans.
