S8 (ZVV)
The S8 is a regional railway line of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network, and is one of the network's lines connecting the cantons of Zürich and Schwyz. Route * The line runs from Winterthur via Oerlikon and the Weinberg Tunnel to Zürich Hauptbahnhof and continues on the left shore of Lake Zurich (over the Lake Zürich left-bank railway line) to Pfäffikon (SZ). The line's overnight service (SN8), operating on weekends after midnight, runs between Zürich HB and Lachen (SZ). Effretikon
Illnau-Effretikon is a municipality in the district of Pfäffikon in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. It includes the villages of Illnau, Effretikon, Ottikon and Bisikon. On 1 January 2016 Kyburg and Illnau-Effretikon merged to form the municipality of Illnau-Effretikon. History Illnau-Effretikon is first mentioned in 745 as ''Illenavvia'' and ''Erpfratinchova''. At first the name of the municipality was Illnau as that town used to be the political and economic center of the municipality. However, when the railway connection was built from Zurich to Winterthur in 1855, only the much smaller Effretikon was in a position to receive a railway station. Subsequently, the economic boom caused by the railway made Effretikon grow disproportionately until it had outgrown Illnau by the beginning of the 20th century. Zürich Hauptbahnhof (often shortened to Zürich HB, or just HB; ''Zürich Main Station'' or ''Zürich Central Station'') is the largest railway station in Switzerland. Wallisellen Railway Station
Wallisellen is a railway station in Switzerland, in the municipality of Wallisellen. It is located on the Zurich to Winterthur railway line, and is to the Zurich side of the junction with the Wallisellen to Rapperswil via Uster line. The railway station is adjacent to the newly built Richti Shopping development. Service The station is an interchange point between the Zurich S-Bahn and the Stadtbahn Glattal light rail system. It is served by Zürich tram route 12, operating on behalf of the Stadtbahn Glattal, and by S-Bahn lines S8, S14 and S19. On weekends, there is also a nighttime S-Bahn services (SN8) offered by ZVV. Wallisellen is served by four mainline tracks, numbered 3 through 6 (1 and 2 correspond to the Stadtbahn Glattal), accessed by two island platforms. Track 3 is used by eastbound trains to Effretikon and Hinwil, and track 4 by westbound trains to Zürich and beyond. Tracks 5 and 6 are not currently used in scheduled service. Dietlikon Railway Station
Dietlikon is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zürich and municipality of Dietlikon ( Glatt Valley). The station is located on the Zürich to Winterthur railway line. The station has a side platform and a central platform, providing three platform faces and serving all three tracks passing through the station. To the south of the station, the three tracks diverge into two twin-track railway lines, one to Zürich via Wallisellen and the other to Zürich via . To the north of the station the three tracks merge into the twin-track line to . Dietlikon station is not to be confused with Dietikon railway station located in Dietikon in the Limmat Valley (canton of Zürich). Lachen ( High Alemannic: ''Lache'') is a municipality in March District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. History Lachen is first mentioned around 1217–22 as ''de Lachun''. Geography Lachen has an area of , as of 2006. Of this area, 26.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 5.8% is forested. Of the remaining land, 62.1% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (5.4%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
