Sør-Fron Church
Sør-Fron Church ( no, Sør-Fron kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sør-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hundorp. It is the church for the Sør-Fron parish which is part of the Sør-Gudbrandsdal prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The white, stone church was built in an octagonal design in 1792 using plans drawn up by the architect Svend Aspaas. The church seats about 750 people. Because of size (750 seats) and central location in the Gudbrandsdalen valley, it has been nicknamed the ''Gudbrandsdalen cathedral'' ( no, Gudbrandsdalsdomen). The church has an octagonal floor plan and it is decorated in a colorful baroque style. It is one of the few rural churches from the 1700s in Norway that is constructed out of stone. Fron is a former municipality in the old Oppland county, Norway. The municipality has existed twice: from 1838-1851 and again from 1966-1977. Hundorp is the administrative centre of Sør-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the Gudbrandsdal valley along the north shore of the Gudbrandsdalslågen river, about west of the village of Ringebu. Gålå is a village in Sør-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located in the Gudbrandsdal valley, about to the southwest of the village of Hundorp. Gålå is located on the eastern shore of the lake Gålåvatnet. Gålå is located on a mountain plateau that sits about above sea level. There are two main roads that connect Gålå to the rest of Sør-Fron. Vestre Gausdal is a former municipality in the old Oppland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1879 until its dissolution in 1962. The area is now part of Gausdal Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Forset. History In 1879, the large Gausdal Municipality was divided into two separate municipalities: Vestre Gausdal (population: 2,362) and Østre Gausdal (population: 5,911). Innlandet is a county in Norway. It was created on 1 January 2020 with the merger of the old counties of Oppland and Hedmark (the municipalities of Jevnaker and Lunner were transferred to the neighboring county of Viken on the same date).
