Södra Teatern
Södra Teatern is a theatre in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located at Mosebacke torg on Södermalm in Stockholm. The venue is the oldest theatre in Stockholm and is situated in the heart of the city. History Södra Teatern is one of Sweden's oldest active theaters. The current theater was designed by architect Johan Fredrik Åbom (1817-1900) and was inaugurated in 1859. It has two restaurants, outdoor terraces and seven stages. The building also consists of five bars and the Mosebacke Etablissement restaurant. Stora Scen is the main stage. Mosebacketerrassen is an outdoor terrace. Champagnebaren is a newly renovated banquet hall Since 1997, focus has been set on staging international performances. The theatre houses diverse events, spanning from club-scene entertainment, concerts, theatre and readings to children's philosophy. Although built as a theatre, the main focus today is on music. Mosebacke (''Mosebacke torg'') is a square and park situated on Södermalm in Stockholm, Sweden. History The park's first plantings took place during 1852–1853. The square and the surrounding neighborhood of Mosebacke were created after the Mosebacke area was hit by an extensive fire in 1857, when many properties there burned to the ground. The park was remodeled in 1941 when it received its current look. Since the 18th century, the site has been known for venues where cultural events take place. It is the site of Stockholm's oldest private theatre, Södra teatern. The current theater was designed by architect Johan Fredrik Åbom (1817-1900) and was inaugurated in 1859. Södermalm
Södermalm, often shortened to just Söder, is a district and island in central Stockholm. Overview The district covers the large island of the same name (formerly called ''Åsön''). Although Södermalm usually is considered an island, water to both its north and south does not flow freely but passes through locks. Södermalm is connected to its surrounding areas by a number of bridges. Johan Fredrik Åbom
Johan Fredrik Åbom (30 July 1817 - April 20, 1900) was a Swedish architect. Biography Åbom was born in the parish of Katarina in Stockholm County, Sweden. He was a student at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm at the same time as Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander (1816–1881). Prior to this, he was a bricklayer apprentice and student at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Apart from a short study tour to Germany in 1852, he followed the traditional timeline for scientific publication. After the Royal Art Academy and until 1882, he was working at the Swedish government administration of state buildings (''Överintendentsämbetet''). During the years 1843–1853, he was working as an architect for prison management. He had the entire country as sphere of activity, with both public - and private assignments. Djurgårdsteatern
Djurgårdsteatern (Swedish for "Djurgården Theatre"), was an historical Swedish theatre, active at Djurgården in Stockholm between 1801 and 1929 (from 1863 in a new building). It was the only theatre in Stockholm outside the royal theatres during the monopol of the royal theatres between 1799 and 1842, and it also played an important part in abolishing this royal monopol. Until 1842, it was a "summer theatre", but later, it became an all-year theatre and an important one, called the "theatre of the people". It was described as a wood building with the same exterior of a barn, and was painted yellow. Mindre Teatern
Mindre teatern (''The Smaller Theatre''), Nya teatern (''The New Theatre''), Lindeberska teatern (''The Lindeberg Theatre''), was a Swedish theatre at Kungsgatan in Stockholm, active 1842–1863. The building was used as localities for the Royal Dramatic Theatre in 1863–1908. History The theatre was founded by Anders Lindeberg in 1842 after the theatre monopoly of the Royal Dramatic theatre was abolished. It was called Mindre teatern (The Smaller Theatre), as the old Royal Dramatic theatre was called "The Big Theatre", Nya teatern (The New Theatre), and also Lindeberska teatern (The Lindeberg Theatre), after its founder. It became a popular theatre, which rivaled the Royal Theatre. In 1863, the theatre was sold to the Royal Theatre and dissolved.
