Shostak ''(Polish.Szóstak)'' is a noble surname of Polish—Lithuanian origin, which appeared at the turn of the XV -XVI century. The surname has become widespread among Polish, Lithuanian, Estonian, Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian and Jewish ethnic groups, due to the emigration of its ancestors caused by the Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Origin The Shostaks come from an ancient Polish family of officials, mainly managing the mints of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Alex Szostak (born 4 April 1986) is a former Scotland international rugby league footballer who played as a forward for the Sheffield Eagles in the RFL Championship and Workington Town in Kingstone Press League 1. Background Szostak was born in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. Career Szostak started his career with Bradford Bulls, and played for several seasons in the club's under-21 team. He played at club level for Workington Town, as a . Alex won two Championship titles with Sheffield in 2012 and 2013, before leaving the club to concentrate on his work commitments. Szostak signed with Workington Town for the 2014 season but sustained a knee injury during a match against Whitehaven, which kept him out of the remaining games of the 2014 and start of the 2015 season. Michał Szostak (born 1980 in Poland), is an international concert organist, organologist and musicologist, manager, university professor and scientific researcher. A Doctor habilitated (Associate Professor) in Management and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance. He studied organ performance at the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw under Professor Andrzej Chorosiński and organ improvisation at the Pontificio Istituto Ambrosiano di Musica Sacra in Milan under Maestro Davide Paleari as well as management and marketing (Master and PhD studies) at Leon Koźmiński Academy in Warsaw. Stanisław Szostak
Stanisław Szostak (14 January 1898 – 11 February 1961) was a colonel of the Polish Armoured Corps. He was born in Berazino, today's Belarus, the son of Władysław and Maria Nieciejowska of Hrynica. He was injured in a car accident and died in 1961. He is buried at Brompton Cemetery in London. Russian Revolution and interwar Poland In 1917, having graduated with distinction (Gold Medal), Stanisław Szostak was enrolled as an officer cadet (junker) in the Nikolayevskoye School of Engineers in Petrograd, Russia. Following the unsuccessful counter-revolutionary Junker mutiny of 29 October 1917 he was imprisoned in the Fortress of Peter and Paul in Petrograd.
