Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese Of Hosur
The Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Hosur-Mylapore is an Eastern Syriac Catholic eparchy headquartered in Tamil Nadu, India, under the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. It was established by Pope Francis on 10 October 2017, and Mar Sebastian Pozholiparampil was appointed its first bishop. The cathedral is St. Antony's Syro-Malabar Catholic Cathedral Church at Noothenchery and the bishop's chancellory is at St. Thomas Pastoral Centre Ayanavaram. The Syro Malabar Church is not a language-based community. It is an Oriental (East Syriac Rite) Catholic church, in full communion with the Church of Rome. Before the creation of this Eparchy, the Chennai Mission was founded in 1981 to serve the Syro-Malabar community in Chennai (Madras). Priests from the Eparchy of Irinjalakkuda volunteered their time to travel to Chennai to provide members who were present in the cities for work and studies. Ayanavaram
Ayanpuram, or Ayanavaram, is a neighbourhood in Chennai, India. Konnur High Road, one of the important connecting roads in Chennai runs through Ayanavaram. Etymology The neighbourhood was originally known as Ayanpuram, with Ayan meaning Brahma. When Lord Muruga admonished Brahma and took over creation, it is believed that Brahma prayed to Shiva here and got his action of creativity back. Christianity in the state of Tamil Nadu, India is the second largest religion in the state. According to tradition, St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles, landed in Malabar Coast (modern day Kerala) in AD 52. In the colonial age many Portuguese, Dutch, British and Italian Christians came to Tamil Nadu. Priests accompanied them not only to minister the colonisers but also to spread the Christian faith among the non-Christians in Tamil Nadu. Papal Seminary
Papal Seminary, Pune, India, is a Catholic educational institute whose primary function is training priests. Currently, it caters to the formation of about 180 Seminarians from most of the dioceses of India. It trains students from all three ritual Churches of India: Latin rite, Syro-Malabar rite and Syro-Malankara Rite. History Founding Pope Leo XIII established the Papal Seminary for India, Burma and Ceylon in 1890. The task of finding a suitable place for the Papal Seminary was entrusted to Msgr. Ladislaus Zaleski. Subsequently, Msgr. Zaleski became the Apostolic Delegate to India, Burma and Ceylon and took up residence in Kandy.
