The Syrian Arab Football Association (SFA; ar, الاتحاد العربي السوري لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Syria, controlling the Syrian national team and the Syrian Premier League. The Syrian Football Association was founded in 1936 and has been a member of FIFA since 1937, the Asian Football Confederation since 1970, and the Sub-confederation regional body West Asian Football Federation since 2001. The Asian Football Confederation is the governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in some countries/territories in Asia and Oceania. It has 47 member countries most of which are located in Asia. Australia, formerly in Oceania Football Confederation, OFC, joined AFC in 2006. Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, both Territories of the United States, territories of the United States, are also AFC members that are geographically in Oceania. The Asian Ladies Football Confederation (ALFC) was the section of AFC who managed women's association football in Asia. The group was independently founded in April 1968 in a meeting involving Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. In 1986 ALFC merged with AFC. Beach soccer, also known as beach football, sand football or beasal, is a variant of association football played on a beach or some form of sand. Whilst football has been played informally on beaches, the introduction of ''beach soccer'' was an attempt to codify rules for the game. This was done in 1992 by the founders of Beach Soccer Worldwide, a company set up to develop the sport and responsible for the majority of its tournaments. History Beach football ( or ''futebol de areia'') started in Brazil, more precisely at Rio de Janeiro. In 1950 the first official tournament was created to unite neighborhood small tournaments that happened since 1940. It has grown to be an international game. The AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup is the main championship for beach soccer in Asia, contested between the senior men's national teams of the members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It is the sport's version of the better known AFC Asian Cup in association football. The winners of the championship are crowned continental champions; the tournament also acts as the qualification route for Asian nations to the upcoming edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Qualification (AFC)
The 2011 AFC Beach Soccer Championship was a continental beach soccer tournament, which took place from February 27 to March 4, 2011, in Muscat, Oman, seeing the tournament leave Dubai for the first time. Beach Soccer Worldwide and FIFA decided to move the location of the championship to the Al-Musannah Sports City complex in Muscat, due to the success of the 2010 Asian Beach Games held there. The two finalists and the third place play-off winner earned qualification to represent Asia at the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna, Italy being Japan, who won the championship for a second consecutive time, Oman who finished in second place, qualifying to the world cup for the first time and Iran who beat the United Arab Emirates in the third place play off, to qualify by finishing in third place for the fourth time. The Asian Beach Games, also known as ABG, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are described as the second or third largest Asian multi-sport event, after the Asian Games. Its popularity is increasing due to the low cost of temporary venues, with beaches and oceans already available, while spectators and tourists are also already available in sand and sea tourist areas. In its history, six countries have hosted the Asian Beach Games. Forty-five nations have participated in the Games.
