Syrian Football Association
The Syrian Arab Football Association (SFA; ar, الاتحاد العربي السوري لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Syria, controlling the Syrian national team and the Syrian Premier League. The Syrian Football Association was founded in 1936 and has been a member of FIFA since 1937, the Asian Football Confederation since 1970, and the Sub-confederation regional body West Asian Football Federation since 2001. Syria is also part of the Union of Arab Football Associations and has been a member since 1974. Syria's team is commonly known as Nosour Qasioun ( ar, نسور قاسيون, lit=Qasioun eagles). Al-Fayhaa Sports Complex
Al-Fayhaa Sports Complex ( ar, مَدِينَة ٱلْفَيْحَاء ٱلرِّيَاضِيَّة, Madīnat al-Fayḥāʾ ar-Riyāḍīyah), is a football training facility opened in 1976, serving as the headquarters of the Syrian Arab Federation for Football as well as the official training centre of the Syrian football team. It is located in the municipal district of al-Salihiyah at the heart of Damascus, the capital of Syria. Syrian Cup
The Syrian Cup ( ar, سوريا) is Syria's premier knockout Cup tournament in men's football. It was first contested in 1959. Al-Ittihad SC has won the competition on 10 occasions. The final was first played in the 1960-61 season during the UAR era and won by Al-Majd SC. The tournament has been held annually since then except for the 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 seasons. The record for consecutive wins in the competition is four titles, only two teams have achieved such as Al-Karamah and Al-Fotuwa. Al-Ittihad are the current title holders. Syrians ( ar, سُورِيُّون, ''Sūriyyīn'') are an Eastern Mediterranean ethnic group indigenous to the Levant. They share common Levantine Semitic roots. The cultural and linguistic heritage of the Syrian people is a blend of both indigenous elements and the foreign cultures that have come to inhabit the region of Syria over the course of thousands of years. The mother tongue of most Syrians is Levantine Arabic, which came to replace the former mother tongue, Aramaic, following the Muslim conquest of the Levant in the 7th century. The conquest led to the establishment of the Caliphate under successive Arab dynasties, who, during the period of the later Abbasid Caliphate, promoted the use of the Arabic language. Syrian League 1st Division
Syrian League 1st Division ( ar, الدوري السوري الدرجة الأولى) is the second division in football in Syria. It is operated by the Syrian Football Association (SFA). The league began to play in 1960s. After each season the two top clubs are promoted to the Premier League, and the bottom clubs are relegated to the Syrian League 2nd Division. In the 2021–22 season, Al-Majd and Al-Jazeera SC won the title and they were promoted to Premier League. In 2021–22 season, the league consists of 24 clubs divided into 4 groups based on their geographical distribution. However, the final round consists of 8 teams divided into two groups. Hatem Ghaeb
Hatem Ghaeb ( ar, حاتم الغايب) is a Syrian football defender who played for Syria in the 1996 Asian Cup. Early life Ghaeb was born 1967 in Al-Asharah, Deir ez-Zor Governorate, which indicates to age fabrication, to enable him to participate in the youth tournaments, as he was registered as born on 25 September 1971. Career Ghaeb played his entire career for Al-Shorta from 1987 to 2000. He played for Syria U20 in the 1990 AFC Youth Championship and 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship. In December 2019, Ghaeb was voted to be the Chairman of the Syrian Arab Federation for Football. Farouk Bouzo
Farouk Bouzo ( ar, فاروق بوظو; born 3 March 1938 Damascus, Syria) is a retired Syrian international football referee. He pioneered a new style of VAR in Egyptian football. Career Farouk Bouzo was a FIFA referee from 1969 until 1980. He officiated an international match in the 1978 FIFA World Cup group stages. He has the distinct honor of being the first Syrian referee to lead a match at a World Cup and the first referee to receive a 10 (highest recognition) grade from his inspector for his great performance in a World Cup match. He also officiated three matches at the 1977 FIFA World Youth Championship. He issued two yellow cards at the 1978 World Cup match between Germany and Mexico (6–0), one to each side. After career He served as Secretary-General of the Syrian Football Association in 1976 and President from 1982 to 1994.
