Hangar 18 (band)
Hangar 18 was an American hip hop group from New York City, New York. It consisted of Alaska, Windnbreeze, and DJ Pawl. The group was signed to Definitive Jux. History During their early years, Alaska and Windnbreeze were active members of the Atoms Family crew. Hangar 18 was formed after the two were joined by DJ Pawl in 2002. The group's name derives from a hangar at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. In 2004, Hangar 18 released the debut studio album, ''The Multi-Platinum Debut Album'', on Definitive Jux. It received favorable reviews from ''Exclaim!'' and ''XLR8R''. In 2007, the group released the second studio album, ''Sweep the Leg'', on the label. Definitive Jux
Definitive Jux was a record label based in New York City. It was co-founded in 1999 by El-P and Amaechi Uzoigwe. History Definitive Jux was initially known as Def Jux. However, popular hip hop label Def Jam Recordings sued Def Jux over the name similarity in 2001. This lawsuit was settled out of court and the name was officially changed to Definitive Jux. In February 2010, El-P announced that the label, although it will carry on selling its catalog and merchandise, would be put "on hiatus" as a traditional record label, and that it would be going through some changes in order to keep up with the evolution of the music industry. He also announced that he was stepping down as artistic director of Definitive Jux to focus on producing and being a full-time artist. Tony Simon (born October 8, 1976), better known by his stage name Blockhead, and formerly known as Funky Omelet, is an American hip hop record producer and DJ from Manhattan, New York. Aside from his solo efforts released on the Ninja Tune label, he is most associated with producing tracks for Aesop Rock. He has been a member of the groups such as Party Fun Action Committee and The Mighty Jones. Biography Simon was born and raised in Downtown Manhattan. AllHipHop is a hip hop news website founded by Greg Watkins and Chuck Creekmur in 1998. History The website was founded in 1998 by Greg Watkins and Chuck Creekmur. In 1997, Watkins registered the allhiphop.com domain to promote the artists on Oblique Recordings, a small record label he operated. The website provided music downloads to promote the label's artists. After reaching 30,000 downloads a month, Watkins struck deals with eMusic and other retailers to sell downloads.
