The men's Swedish Open (sponsored by Skistar) is an ATP Tour 250 tennis tournament on the ATP Tour held in Båstad, Sweden in July. The women's Swedish Open (sponsored by Collector) is a tennis tournament held in Båstad, Sweden, between 2009 and 2017 as an International tournament and successor to the Nordic Light Open in Stockholm, and from 2019 onwards a challenger-level tournament. It is played on outdoor clay courts. History The Swedish Open was first held in 1948 when it was called the ''International Swedish Hard Court Championships''. Between 1970 and 1989 the men's event was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit. The first three tournaments were won by Eric Sturgess from South Africa. Other famous champions include Ilie Năstase (1971), Björn Borg (1974, 1978–1979), Mats Wilander (1982–1983, 1985), and Rafael Nadal (2005). Båstad
Båstad () is a locality and the seat of Båstad Municipality, Scania County, Sweden, with approximately 5,000 permanent residents. It is however one of Sweden's most typical summer resorts. The population is presumably more than twice as large between April and September, and even larger during July. Its municipality follows a similar pattern: some 15,000 permanent residents, but more than 30,000 during July. Some villages within the municipality are almost empty during the winter, but have more than 2,000 "summer guests" during July. Torekov is a good example of this. Mats Arne Olof Wilander (; born 22 August 1964) is a Swedish former world No. 1 tennis player. From 1982 to 1988, he won seven major singles titles (three at the French Open, three at the Australian Open, and one at the US Open), and one major men's doubles title (at Wimbledon). Between 1974 and 1981, he became the first man in the Open Era to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles with six at the French Open and five consecutively at Wimbledon. Ilie Theodoriu Năstase (, born 19 July 1946) is a former World No. 1 Romanian tennis player. He was ranked world No. 1 in singles from 23 August 1973 to 2 June 1974, and was the first man to hold the top position on the computerized ATP rankings.
