Susan Ideh
Susan Funaya Ideh (born 5 May 1987) is a Nigerian female badminton player. She competed at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India. In 2015, she won the women's singles gold at the All-Africa Games In Maputo, Mozambique. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. Badminton World Federation
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the international governing body for the sport of badminton recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was founded in 1934 as the International Badminton Federation (IBF) with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales). In 1981 the IBF merged with the World Badminton Federation, and on 24 September 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, the name of the organization was changed to Badminton World Federation (BWF). When the BWF was founded (as the IBF), its head office was located in Cheltenham, UK. The head office was relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 1, 2005. Abuja
Abuja () is the capital and eighth most populous city of Nigeria. Chantal Botts (born 30 March 1976) is a South African badminton player. Botts was the gold medallist in the women's doubles event at the 2003 and 2007 All-Africa Games. Michelle Claire Edwards
Michelle Claire Edwards (born 11 July 1974) is a South African badminton player. Career Edwards played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics, losing to Aparna Popat of India in the round of 32 in the women's singles. In the women's doubles, Edwards and her partner Chantal Botts were defeated by Nicole Grether and Juliane Schenk of Germany in the round of 32. In 2007, she won 3 medals in badminton at the 2007 All-Africa Games, a gold medal in women's doubles with Chantal Botts, a silver medal in women's singles, and a bronze medal in mixed doubles. She also participated in the Summer Olympic Games of 2008 and 2012 in the women's doubles event. At the 2008 Summer Olympics she competed with Chantal Botts, they lost to Taipei in the first round. Grace Daniel
Grace Kubi Daniel (born 24 February 1984) is a Nigerian badminton player. She defeated South Africa's Michelle Claire Edwards for the gold medal in the women's singles, and also, teamed up with Susan Ideh for a silver in the doubles at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria. Daniel qualified for the women's singles at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after she was ranked eighty-ninth in the world, and awarded a continental spot for Africa by the Badminton World Federation. She lost the first preliminary round match to Czech Republic's Kristina Ludíková, with a score of 13–21 and 8–21. Grace Gabriel
Grace Gabriel Ofodile (born 25 June 1988) is a Nigerian badminton player. She won the women's singles title at the 2012 and 2013 African Championships. Gabriel also won the women's singles silver medal at the 2011 and 2015 African Games. Career She won the silver medal in the women's singles at the 2011 All-Africa Games. She became the runner-up in the women's singles event at the 2014 African Badminton Championships. She won second place at the 2015 All Africa Games. In September 2013, it was reported that she was one of the 14 players selected for the Road to Rio Program, a program that aimed to help African badminton players to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games. Mozambique
