Superior Creek
Superior Creek was a stream draining into Lake Ontario in the former village of Mimico, Ontario, Canada. It was approximately 3 kilometers long, with headwaters near the present intersection of Kipling Avenue and The Queensway. The lower reaches of the creek had become polluted, and were buried in a sewer in 1915. In 1954, citizens of Mimico living in newly built houses near the upper reaches complained that the creek flooded, and lobbied to have the creek replaced by storm sewers, and a study was prepared. According to ''HTO: Toronto's water from Lake Iroquois to lost rivers to low-flow toilets,'' the creek was buried around 1965. The creek west of Superior Creek was Jackson Creek, while the creek east of Superior Creek was Mimico Creek. Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded on the north, west, and southwest by the Canadian province of Ontario, and on the south and east by the U.S. state of New York. Mimico
Mimico is a neighbourhood (and a former municipality) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, being located in the south-west area of Toronto on Lake Ontario. It is in the south-east corner of the former Township (and later, City) of Etobicoke, and was an independent municipality from 1911 to 1967. Mimico is the oldest of the former Lakeshore Municipalities. The Town of Mimico was established by a plan of sub-division in 1856, but was not sub-divided from the former Township of Etobicoke until 1911. The land area of Mimico originated mainly from three family farms, namely: Stock Estate (North of Portland), Hendry Estate (between Royal York and Queens Ave), Van Every Estate (between Royal York Rd and Dwight Ave). Kipling Avenue
Kipling Avenue is a street in the cities of Toronto and Vaughan in Ontario, Canada. It is a concession road, 6 concessions (12 km) west from Yonge Street, and is a major north–south arterial road. It consists of three separate sections, with total combined length of 26.4 km. (16.4 mi.). The street travels through the district of Etobicoke and serves areas such as New Toronto, Etobicoke Centre, Richview, and Rexdale, passing through residential neighbourhoods and pockets of industrial and commercial areas. The Queensway
The Queensway (or Queensway) is a major street in the municipalities of Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is a western continuation of Queen Street, after it crosses Roncesvalles Avenue and King Street in Toronto. The Queensway is a divided roadway from Roncevalles westerly until 600 metres of the South Kingsway (accessed by ramps) with its centre median dedicated to streetcar service. The road continues undivided west from there to Etobicoke Creek as a four- or six-lane thoroughfare. After crossing the creek, it enters Mississauga under Peel Region jurisdiction as Peel Regional Road 20, as far west as Mavis Road, with the westernmost portion to Glengarry Road being maintained by the city. There is a road allowance with hydro lines, cutting into the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club on the shores of the Credit River. Jackson Creek (Toronto)
Jackson Creek is a watercourse that flows into Lake Ontario near 10th Street, in the New Toronto neighbourhood of Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Great Lakes Basin. Mimico Creek
Mimico Creek is a stream that flows through Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It is long, is in the Great Lakes Basin, and is a tributary of Lake Ontario. The creek's name is derived from the community of Mimico, which is from the Ojibwe word ''omiimiikaa'' meaning "abundant with wild pigeons" (c.f. 19th century Mississaugas ''omiimii'', "pigeon"). Previous names included River Mimicoke and Mimicoke Creek. Course The watershed of lies between the Humber River to the east and Etobicoke Creek to the west.
