Sunrise Airways S.A. is a Haitian airline that provides scheduled passenger and charter flights. History Sunrise Airways was founded in 2010 and commenced flights on a charter basis on January 1, 2011. In February 2011, the carrier began scheduled flights between Port-au-Prince and Jacmel in Haiti offering passenger, cargo and mail services. In July 2011, all scheduled flights stopped and the airline operated only on a charter basis. On December 20, 2012, it returned to scheduled service, offering two daily commercial flights between Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien with its BAE Jetstream 32. In October 2014, Sunrise Airways started a regularly scheduled service to Santiago de Cuba, the company's first commercial flights to Cuba. In March 2016, a second route to Cuba ( Camaguey) was opened. Port-au-Prince ( , ; ht, Pòtoprens ) is the capital and most populous city of Haiti. The city's population was estimated at 987,311 in 2015 with the metropolitan area estimated at a population of 2,618,894. The Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia is a twin-turboprop 30-passenger commuter airliner designed and manufactured by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. The EMB 120 began development during 1974. While initially conceived as a modular series of aircraft, the ''Family 12X'' and referred to as the ''Araguaia'', intending to achieve a high level of commonality with the EMB 121 Xingu, the aircraft was redesigned and relaunched with the ''Brasilia'' name scheme during 1979. The redesign, which drew on operator feedback, reduced the seating capacity somewhat while removing commonality with the EMB 121. Antoine-Simon Airport
Antoine Simon Airport is the fourth airport in Haiti in passenger traffic and is north of Les Cayes, a Caribbean coastal city in Haiti's Southern peninsula. History The airport is named after François C. Antoine Simon, the 18th President of Haiti (1908–1911). It was financed and built by the Haitian government and inaugurated on 7 May 2005 by then Prime Minister Gérard Latortue. Taiwan financed the construction of the access road to the airport. On February 1, 2013, Haiti laid the first stone on the expansion of the Antoine-Simon Airport. The Autorité Aéroportuaire Nationale plans to make it an international airport by extending the runway to and adding a terminal with customs and other services. Les Cayes ( , ), often referred to as Aux Cayes (; ht, Okay), is a commune and seaport in the Les Cayes Arrondissement, in the Sud department of Haiti, with a population of 71,236. Due to its isolation from the political turmoil of the capital, Port-au-Prince, it is one of Haiti's major ports, with export trade concentrating on mostly coffee and sugarcane. Jérémie
Jérémie ( ht, Jeremi) is a commune and capital city of the Grand'Anse department in Haiti. It had a population of about 31,000 at the 2003 census. It is relatively isolated from the rest of the country. The Grande-Anse River flows near the city. Jérémie is called ''the city of the poets'' because of the numerous writers, poets, and historians born there. History During 1762, French General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was born here. Antonio Maceo Airport is an international airport located in Santiago, Cuba. Overview The airport has a drawing of Che Guevara on one of its outside walls. Pope John Paul II flew to this airport during his last visit to Cuba, flying a round trip between here and José Martí International Airport in Havana. Likewise, Pope Benedict XVI, during the second papal visit to Cuba, flew here for Mass and other activities, from his visit to León and Guanajuato in Mexico, before moving on to Havana.
