Sunparlour Players
Sunparlour Players are a Canadian alternative country band. Based in Toronto, Ontario, the band consists of songwriter Andrew Penner on lead vocals, guitar, bass, banjo, bass organ pedals, percussion, and kick drum and Michael "Rosie" Rosenthal on drums, glockenspiel, banjo, backing vocals, keyboards and bass. They come from Ontario. Andrew Penner grew up on a farm near Leamington, in the region nicknamed Canada's "Sun Parlour". The band independently released its debut album ''Hymns for the Happy'' in 2006, and rereleased it in 2007 after signing to The Baudelaire Label. Their second album, ''Wave North'', followed in 2009 on Outside Music. Extensive touring has taken place since the release of ''Wave North'', including gigs with Mumford & Sons, Blue Rodeo and Plants and Animals, as well as their own headlining schedule of shows in barns, backyards, theatres, and clubs. Outside Music is a Canadian record label and distributor founded by Lloyd Nishimura in 2001. ''This Beautiful City'' is a 2007 Canadian drama film written, directed, produced, and edited by Ed Gass-Donnelly. It premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival and had a general theatrical release in 2008. The film depicts the lives of five disparate characters in Downtown Toronto. Plants and Animals are a Canadian indie-rock band from Montreal (featuring two members originally from Nova Scotia) which comprises guitarist-vocalists Warren Spicer and Nic Basque and drummer-vocalist Matthew Woody Woodley. The trio began playing together as kids and emerged on the international scene in 2008. They are signed to Secret City Records. Blue Rodeo is a Canadian country rock band formed in 1984 in Toronto, Ontario. They have released 16 full-length studio albums, four live recordings, one greatest hits album, and two video/DVDs, along with multiple solo albums, side projects, and collaborations. History High school friends Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor began playing music professionally together after completing university. They put together several bands without commercial success in the late 1970s, releasing a single as Hi-Fi's in 1980.
