Yan District
The Yan District is a district in Kedah, Malaysia. It is bordered by Kota Setar District to the north, Pendang District to the northeast and Kuala Muda District to the south. Yan District is along the coast of the Straits of Malacca. It is the smallest municipality in Kedah. "Yan Besar" is the administrative town of Yan district, complete with administrative facilities such like Police Stations, magistrate court, district and land office. Its lifestyle is laid-back and slow-paced, with weekend attractions of natural waterfalls nearby. Kedah

Lunas, Kedah
Lunas (Tamil: லுனாஸ், Chinese: 魯乃 ) is a sub-district of Kulim District which lies in Kedah, Malaysia. Lunas also serves as a state constituency in the Parliament Constituency of Padang Serai, Kedah. The town is famous for Roast Duck rice. The majority of people here are ethnic Chinese and Indian. Meanwhile, total population stand at 18,236 Development history The town was founded in the early 20th century, while its shophouses were constructed between 1910s and 1930s, when Kedah was under British protection at that time. During that period many local people including Chinese and Indian migrant worked at rubber estates that were formerly owned by British companies. One of the earliest schools was Lunas English School. Today, there are still many well-preserved gems such as pre-war shophouses, a traditional "wooden bungalow on stilts" post office, and the colonial-style Soon Cheng Sai mansion. Ibrahim Hussein (artist)
Datuk Ibrahim Hussein (13 March 1936 – 19 February 2009) was a Malaysian artist. His main medium was one he devised himself and called "printage"—a combination of printing and collage. Ibrahim was born in 1936 in the village of Sungai Limau in the Yan district of Kedah. His eldest brother is Abdullah Hussain. A talented artist during his youth, he began studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore in 1956. In 1959, he moved to London, where he studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. During his time in London, he worked as a postman and film extra to survive financially, until he was awarded an Award of Merit scholarship which allowed him to travel to France and Italy. |
