Suhareka
Suva Reka ( sr-Cyrl, Сува Река) or Suharekë () or Therandë () is a List of cities in Kosovo, town and Municipalities of Kosovo, municipality located in the District of Prizren, Prizren district of central-southern Kosovo. According to the 2011 census, the town has 10,422 inhabitants, while the municipality has 59,722 inhabitants mostly Kosovo Albanians. Suva Reka is located from the city of Prizren, and from Kosovo's capital, Pristina. Name ''Suva Reka'' means "dry river" in the Serbian language. The Albanian spellings are ''Suharekë'' or ''Suhareka'' (derived from the Slavic form), while an alternative ''Therandë'', was adopted from an unlocated ancient site (possibly in Suhareka or Lubizhda in the Mirusha valley. Mushtishtë
Mushtisht or Mušutište ( sr-Cyrl, Мушутиште) is a village in the Suhareka municipality in Kosovo. It is located to the west of the Nerodimka mountain. It has 10 medieval Serbian Orthodox churches, including the notable Church of Virgin Hodegetria, which was destroyed in 1999. The village used to have a mixed Albanian-Serbian population; according to the 1991 census, it had 5016 inhabitants. The Serbian inhabitants fled the village during the Kosovo war. All their houses were subsequently set on fire and most of their properties usurped. Their return to the village has been actively opposed by an Albanian group. Municipalities Of Kosovo
A municipality (; ) is the basic administrative division in Kosovo and constitutes the only level of power in local governance. There are 38 municipalities in Kosovo; 27 of which have an Kosovo Albanians, Albanian ethnic majority, 10 Kosovo Serbs, Serb and Mamusha, 1 Turks in Kosovo, Turkish. Duhël
Duhël ( sr-Cyrl, Дуље, ) is a settlement in the Suva Reka municipality in Kosovo. The village is exclusively ethnic Albanian; in the 1991 census, it had 1399 inhabitants. Geography The village lies in Prizrenski Podgor, about 25 km east of Prizren, on the west side of the Crnoljeva and offset of the Šar Mountains.Glasnik, p. 392 It lies in the region of Podrimlje. From its heights, one can view almost the whole of Metohija. Dulje extends over a lake terrace, nearly 1 km wide, around 750 m high, which in this part represents the border of the Metohija-Prizren region. Suva Reka Massacre
The Suva Reka massacre (, ) refers to the mass murder of Kosovo Albanian civilians committed by Serbian police officers on 26 March 1999 in Suva Reka, Kosovo, during the 1999 NATO bombings of Yugoslavia. Massacre There were 48 victims of the Suva Reka massacre, including fourteen who were under 15 years old. Forty-six were members of the Berisha family - who were targeted because they had rented one of their homes to the OSCE observers in Suva Reke/Suharekë, who provided a sense of security to the local Albanians but withdrew from the area when NATO bombing began. A woman and two children survived the massacre. The victims were locked inside a pizzeria into which two hand grenades were thrown. Before taking the bodies out of the pizzeria, the police allegedly shot anyone still showing signs of life. Special Police Units (Serbia)
The Special Police Units or Police Special Units (, PJP) was a special police force unit of Serbia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP). It had several detachments and was part of the sector of the State Security Directorate. It was disbanded on 28 June 2001 when it was replaced by the re-establishment of the Gendarmery. Between 1994 and 1996 it was commanded by Obrad Stevanović. During the Kosovo War (1998–99), the force had an estimated 5,000 or 7,000 men. Ambush Near Suva Reka
The Ambush near Suva Reka (Serbian language, Serbian: ''Zaseda kod Suve Reke'') was an incident that occurred during the Kosovo War when members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) ambushed a Special Police Units (Serbia), MUP convoy, killing three Serbian policemen near the village of Duhël, close to Suva Reka. The three Serbian policemen were blown up by a rocket-propelled grenade that exploded on impact with their squad car. Background The result of the ambush was due to Yugoslav troops shelling the village of Sllapuzhan. Incident On 8 January 1999, the KLA's 125th brigade which had been operating in the nearby areas of Prizren and Attack on Orahovac, Orahovac, led an ambush on a convoy of Yugoslav troops near the town of Suva Reka. Kosovo Liberation Army
The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA; , UÇK) was an Albanians, ethnic Albanian separatist militia that sought the separation of Kosovo, the vast majority of which is inhabited by Albanians, from the Republic of Serbia (1992–2006), Republic of Republic of Serbia (1992–2006), Serbia and Serbia and Montenegro, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the 1990s.
