Sub Oslo
Sub Oslo is an improvisational band from Denton, Texas, that plays psychedelic/ ambient dub. The band was formed in 1996 by Miguel Veliz and Quincy Holloway, who were roommates at the time. Since then the band has expanded to include a total of eight members. When Sub Oslo performs live, they have a visual artist working live to display visualizations projected onto a screen, and incorporate a mix engineer, allowing performances to be different each time. Sub Oslo has toured the West Coast, Japan, and has also had their music featured in the Xbox videogame ''Brute Force''. They have also performed alongside influential dub artists such as Mad Professor, Steel Pulse and The Roots. Jam Band
A jam band is a musical group whose concerts (and live albums) are characterized by lengthy improvisational "jams." These include extended musical improvisation over rhythmic grooves and chord patterns, and long sets of music which often cross genre boundaries. Most jam band sets will consist of variations on songs that have already been released as studio recordings. Jam bands are known for having a very fluid structure, often having one song lead into another without any interruption. The jam-band musical style, spawned from the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s, was a feature of nationally famed groups such as the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band, whose regular touring schedules continued into the 1990s. , better known by his stage name DJ Krush, is a record producer and DJ. He is known for his atmospheric instrumental production which incorporates sound elements from nature and extensive use of jazz and soul samples. Early life Ishi was born in Tokyo in 1962. He dropped out of school at an early age and joined a local gang and, a few years later, the yakuza. Early in his career as a yakuza underling, Ishi discovered a severed finger wrapped in paper on his desk. Later, after discovering that it had belonged to a friend, he decided to leave the yakuza and cut ties with the criminal underworld. Ishi was inspired to start DJing after seeing the film '' Wild Style'' in 1983. HiM (band)
HiM is a dub music, dub influenced post-rock group formed in 1995 by Doug Scharin, drummer for the bands Codeine (band), Codeine, Rex (band), Rex and June of 44. Their first album, ''Egg'', was their most dub-based effort. Each successive album has gone more in a quasi-world music direction. After some recording for ''Crooklyn Dub Consortium'' and Wordsound, ''Interpretive Belief System'', HiM settled on a lineup of Scharin with Bundy K. Brown, Rob Mazurek and Jeff Parker (musician), Jeff Parker, members or occasional members of Tortoise (band), Tortoise and Isotope 217. Yeti (band)
Yeti were an English rock band, founded in 2004 by John Hassall, of The Libertines. Hassall met Brendan Kersey, Andrew Deian and Mark Underwood (formerly Harmony Williams) through mutual friends, and the line-up was completed when drummer Graham Blacow responded to a classified advertisement. The band is based in North London. Career Yeti began with Hassall as the main songwriter, but soon Underwood started writing and singing a few of his own (including lead-off track on ''One Eye on the Banquet'', "The Last Time You Go" and "Insect-Eating Man"), while Deian has also penned several tracks, including their single "Don't Go Back to the One You Love" and "Jermyn Girls". The Make-up
The Make-Up is an American post-punk band from Washington, D.C. formed in 1995, consisting of ex-Nation of Ulysses frontman Ian Svenonius on vocals, James Canty on guitar and organ, Steve Gamboa on drums, and Michelle Mae on bass guitar. The Make-Up were joined in late 1999 by a fifth member, Alex Minoff (of the groups Golden (band), Golden and Extra Golden), who played guitar with the group until the band's dissolution in early 2000. The Make-Up combined garage rock, soul music, soul, and a self-styled liberation theology to make a new genre they called "Gospel Yeh-Yeh".
