Student Society Liivika
Student Society Liivika ( et, ÜS Liivika) is an Estonian student society. Established on April 21, 1909 in Riga, Latvia, mostly by former members of student corporation Vironia. The original name was Estonian Students' Society of Riga ( et, Riia Eesti Üliõpilaste Selts), but was changed when it moved to Tartu after World War I. The society's motto is "''Ex solo ad solem soli patriae''", which means "Up from the Soil to the Sun for the benefit of Homeland". Riga
Riga (; lv, Rīga , liv, Rīgõ) is the capital and largest city of Latvia and is home to 605,802 inhabitants which is a third of Latvia's population. Trivimi Velliste (born 4 May 1947, in Tartu, Estonia) is an Estonian politician who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1994 and as the Estonian Ambassador to the United Nations from 1994 to 1998. He currently is a Member of Parliament in the Riigikogu representing the Pärnumaa Electoral District. Velliste is considered one of the leading forces behind the liberation of the Baltic States. His fight for Estonian identity as a foundation for the struggle to gain independence was an affront to the Russians and was conducted at great personal risk. Velliste deliberately encouraged the drive for national and political freedom. In accordance with his beliefs, he founded a society for the protection of Estonian historical monuments. Valev Uibopuu
Valev Uibopuu (19 October 1913 Vana-Antsla Parish (now Antsla Parish), Kreis Werro – 18 March 1997 Lund) was an Estonian writer. He is one of the most known Estonian expatriate writers. Mihkel Mathiesen (27 October 1918 – 28 November 2003) was an Estonian statesman. Mihkel Mathiesen was born in Pärivere, Are Parish (now, Tori Parish Tori is a municipality located in Pärnu County, one of the 15 counties of Estonia. Settlements ;Towns: Sindi ;Small boroughs: Are, Tori, Sauga ;Villages: Aesoo - Eametsa - Eavere - Elbi - Elbu - Jõesuu - Kiisa - Kildemaa - Kilksama ...), Pärnu County. Paul Keres (; 7 January 1916 – 5 June 1975) was an Estonian chess grandmaster and chess writer. He was among the world's top players from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s, and narrowly missed a chance at a World Chess Championship match on five occasions. As Estonia was repeatedly invaded and occupied during World War II, Keres was forced by the circumstances to represent the former Soviet Union (1940–41, 1944–75) and Nazi Germany (1941–44) in international tournaments. Keres won the AVRO 1938 chess tournament, which led to negotiations for a title match against the reigning World Champion Alexander Alekhine, but the match never took place due to the outbreak of World War II in 1939. Keres was runner-up in the Candidates Tournament on four consecutive occasions in 1953–1962. Johannes Rudolph Hint (20 September 1914 – died 5 September 1985) was an Estonian scientist and the only person to create and successfully run a limited company under the communist planned economy of the Soviet Union. With his company, Dessim Ltd, he earned millions for the Soviet Union. His most important scientific invention was the building material silikaltsiit (Laprex), which was developed through the execution of the disintegrator system.
