Stuart Gomez(born 15 November 1982 in Sydney) is a male badminton player from Australia. Gomez played the 2007 BWF World Championships in men's singles, and was defeated in the first round by Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, of Malaysia, 21–8, 21–7. He represented Australia at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, but was defeated in the first round by Erwin Kehlhoffner Erwin Kehlhoffner (born 6 December 1983 in Strasbourg) is a badminton player from France affiliated with ASL Robertsau club. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. 2007 BWF World Championships
The 2007 BWF World Championships is the 16th tournament of BWF World Championships (World Badminton Championships). It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 13 to 19 August 2007. Host city selection Aarhus and Kuala Lumpur were the candidates for hosting the championships. Kuala Lumpur was later announced as the host during 2005 IBF council meeting in Beijing. Muhammad Hafiz Hashim
Muhammad Hafiz bin Hashim (born 13 September 1982) is a former Malaysian badminton player whose biggest success is having won the 2003 All England Open Badminton Championships. He is currently the Malaysia national junior under-15 singles coach. Personal life He studied at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Ismail before transferring to Kuala Lumpur. Then, he transferred back to Kelantan and studied in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pintu Geng before he transferred to Sultan Ismail College. He achieved worldwide fame when he won the All England Open Badminton Championships in 2003. He is one of the most successful Malay badminton players aside from the Sidek brothers. Hafiz was among others also coached by Misbun Sidek, the eldest of the Sidek brothers and a former national singles coach. Erwin Kehlhoffner (born 6 December 1983 in Strasbourg) is a badminton player from France affiliated with ASL Robertsau club. Career In the junior event, he won the national singles title in 2002, and also the doubles titles in 2001 and 2002. Kehlhoffner competed at the 2005 World Championships in the men's singles and doubles event, but was defeated in the first round both in singles and doubles event. He also qualified to play at the 2006 World Championships in the men's doubles event with his partner Thomas Quéré, but the duo defeated by the German players in the first round. The Thomas Cup, sometimes called the World Men's Team Championships, is an international badminton competition among teams representing member nations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body. The championships have been conducted every two years since the 1982, amended from being conducted every three years since the first tournament held in 1948–1949. Sudirman Cup
The Sudirman Cup is an international badminton mixed team competition contested by member countries of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every two years since the inaugural tournament in 1989. It used to be held at the same venue for the World Championships in the same year until the International Badminton Federation (now the BWF) decided to split the two tournaments starting from 2003. There are five matches in every Sudirman Cup tie which consists of men and women's singles, men and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The cup is named after Dick Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player and the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).
