Strange Cargo III
''Strange Cargo III'' is the fourth album by electronic instrumentalist William Orbit. It is the third in a series of similarly titled albums: '' Strange Cargo'', ''Strange Cargo II'' and ''Strange Cargo Hinterland''. The album was performed, produced and mixed by William Orbit at Guerilla Studios, London. Mark Rutherford and Sugar J co-performed "Deus Ex Machina" with William Orbit, with Rutherford also co-writing the song. Rico Conning contributed flexible bleeps and roadhouse piano on "Time to get Wize", spiky piano and strings on "The Story of Light" and additional programming on "A Touch of the Night". The album was featured in ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die''. Simon Hilton (born 1967 near Bournemouth) is an English music video, concert and documentary director and editor and multimedia creative based in London. Early life and career Hilton grew up surrounded by science and theatre, as his father was a nuclear scientist and director of the Adelphi Theatre in London. He studied classical music & theory from age 7. In 1980, he was awarded a classical music scholarship to Canford School (studying clarinet, piano and guitar) where he took Maths, Physics and Biology A Levels and maintained strong interest and involvements in the areas of music, photography, film, art and the then nascent computer sciences. Laurie Mayer (composer)
Laurie Mayer (born 1961) is an American born composer and songwriter who has spent much of her musical career in the UK. She majored in both music and fine art at the University of California, Los Angeles before relocating to London. She was part of the group Torch Song. Career During the 1980s and 1990s she was part of the group Torch Song. The band released four albums: Wish Thing, Ecstasy, Exhibit A, and Toward the Unknown Region. Together they ran Guerilla Studios, with Rico Conning as the in-house sound engineer. Conning was also a member of The Lines, a UK post-punk band. She worked with Etienne Daho on his albums 'Pop Satori' and 'Pour nos vies martiennes'. During that time she released an EP, Bright Blue Night. The title track was covered as "Le seul cœur que je brise" by the Daho produced version recorded by Belgian pop artist Lio. Elizabeth Caroline Orton (born 14 December 1970) is an English musician, known for her "folktronica" sound, which mixes elements of folk and electronica. She was initially recognised for her collaborations with William Orbit, Andrew Weatherall, Red Snapper and the Chemical Brothers in the mid-1990s. Her UK/US first solo album, ''Trailer Park'', received much critical acclaim in 1996. Rico Conning is an English record producer, songwriter, sound designer, and guitarist. In his early career (1977–83) he was a singer, guitarist, and songwriter with London-based band, The Lines. During the 1980s, he worked often at North London's Guerilla Studios, producing and mixing artists such as Adam Ant, Coil, Depeche Mode, Renegade Soundwave, Wire, Swans, Laibach, Étienne Daho, and others. Mark Rutherford (composer)
Mark Joseph Rutherford is a London born musician, composer and producer whose work appears on records, video games, television programmes, commercials and feature films. Early years From the age of nine, Rutherford studied classical guitar and classical music theory, learning the Segovia Technique under the guidance of tutor Leslie Nicholls (LGSM BA Hons), a former pupil of the highly acclaimed Professor Adele Kramer. He also learned to play the piano while studying composition and classical music history. Records Rutherford was a guitarist and songwriter with Jimmy The Hoover.
