Strandridergaarden
Strandridergården is a historic country house situated on Vedbæk Strandvej (No. 506) in Vedbæk, Rudersdal Municipality, some 30 km north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built in 1895 for vintner Georg Bestle to designs by architect and designer Thorvald Bindesbøll. History The history of the property dates back to 1811. Im 1876. it was acquired by vintner C.W.F. Bestle (1822-1892) and used as his summer residence. The current main building was built in 1895 for his son Georg Bestle. It was designed by Thorvald Bindesbøll. Bestle served as president of the Association for the Preservation of Old Buildings (’Foreningen til gamle Bygningers Bevarelse). The house stood on a 3.5-hectare (7 ''tønder'') piece of land but most of the land was later sold off in lots. The original lot was later parceled out, but with 11.780 m2 it is still quite large. Vedbæk
Vedbæk is a wealthy suburban neighbourhood on the coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It belongs to Rudersdal Municipality and has merged with the town of Hørsholm to the north. The area has been inhabited for at least 7,000 years, as evidenced by the discovery of a Mesolithic cemetery of the Ertebølle culture. By the 16th century, there were a few small farms and fishermen's houses on the site and in the 18th century, well-to-do townsfolk from Copenhagen started to build country houses in the area. After a paddle steamer began to call at Vedbæk on its journey from Copenhagen to Helsingør, there was an influx of visitors. There are a number of large country houses and a historic church. Georg Bestle
Georg Christian Bestle (18 March 1855 – 6 May 1933) was a Danish vintner. He established his own company in 1882, which had by the 1890s developed into the largest company of its kind in Denmark. Its former headquarters is located at Skindergade 45–47 in Copenhagen. The current building is from 1900. Early life and education Bestle was born on 18 March 1855 in Copenhagen, the son of vintner Christopher Wilhelm Friderich Bestle (1821–92) and Trine Marie Engelsen (1826–98). His father had in 1853 acquired a wine house which traced its history back to 1730. Bestle apprenticed as a wine merchant in his father's company from 1870 and then continued his education abroad where he spent most of his time in Bordeaux. Thorvald Bindesbøll
Thorvald Bindesbøll (21 July 1846 – 27 August 1908) was a Danish National romantic architect, sculptor and ornamental artist. He designed the Dragon Fountain, Copenhagen (''Dragespringvandet'') and is perhaps best known as the creator of the Carlsberg beer label, which has remained unchanged since it was introduced. Biography Bindesbøll was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Born into an artistic family; he was the son of architect Michael Gottlieb Bindesbøll (1800–1856) and wife Andrea Frederikke Andersen (1819-1899). His sister Johanne Bindesbøll was a successful textile artist. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and left as an architect in 1876. Marginalized as an architect, Bindesbøll turned increasingly towards the art of craftsmanship. Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen (9 September 1894 – 31 January 1967) was a Danish author, critic, architect, and designer. In Denmark, where he often is referred to simply as PH, he was one of the leading figures of the cultural life of Denmark between the World Wars. He is most associated with his design of the PH-lamp series of glare-free, shaded lamps. His lamps used carefully analyzed reflecting and baffling of the light rays from the bulb to achieve illumination that was not harsh and glaring but shed warm, soft light. His light fixtures were manufactured by Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen, a company with which Henningsen would build a lifelong working relationship.
