Straffan GAA
Straffan Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic football club in Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland. History A revival occurred with the appointment of Billy Farrell as first team manager in 1999, and the team won the Junior B championship in 2001. In 2005 the first team won promotion to division 2 of the Kildare Senior Football League, while the second team also won promotion to division 2 of the Junior Football League. Straffan began to gather momentum ever since promotion to division 2. priority for the club was to win the Junior football championship which had been a scorn for the club over the years. A junior final appearance was made in 2006 but Straffan were narrowly beaten by Nurney GFC. Numerous semi final appearances were made after that but with little success. However, in 2009 under the management of Liam McLoughlin Straffan finally broke the hoodoo and won the Junior football championship with a last minute goal by Andy O'Neill. Straffan
Straffan (variously ''Teach Srafáin'', ''Strafáin'' or ''An Cluanini'' in Irish) is a village in County Kildare, Ireland, situated on the banks of the River Liffey, 25 km upstream of the Irish capital Dublin. As of the 2016 census, the village had a population of 853, a nearly two-fold increase (from 439) since the 2006 census. Straffan is the name of the surrounding electoral division which is within the ''Celbridge Number 1 Rural Area'', and which (as of 2006) had a population of 1,449. At one time a separate parish, it is today joined to the parishes of Celbridge (in the Roman Catholic structure) and ''Celbridge and Newcastle'' (Church of Ireland), in the respective Dublin dioceses. Kildare Junior Football Championship
The Kildare Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Kildare GAA clubs. The winning club plays in the Kildare Intermediate Football Championship in the following year. As of the 2022 season there is an overall Junior Championship winner as well as a Junior A winner (competed for between the bottom four teams in the Junior Championship Round Robin Group 2). There have been various iterations of the competition, which started in 1906 as the secondary competition to the Kildare Senior Football Championship. In 1928 a Kildare Intermediate Football Championship was started for middle tier teams with the Junior Championship ranking below that. In 1947 the Junior Championship was split into A and B competitions with the winners competing for the overall Junior title. Eoghan Corry ( ga, Eoghan Ó Cómhraí; born 19 January 1961) is an Irish journalist and author. He is the lead commentator on travel for media in Ireland, having edited travel sections in national newspapers and travel publications since the 1980s. The Kildare Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by Kildare GAA between the top clubs in County Kildare, Ireland. The winners of the Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Club Championship, the winners of which progress to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Celbridge GAA
Celbridge is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. They were awarded Kildare GAA club of the year in 2008, winners of the Kildare senior football championship of 2008, finalists in the senior football league of 1923, 1988 and 2008 and won the Kildare senior hurling and camogie championships in 2005. The club has also won several honours at underage levels in all three codes, qualifying for national finals in football, hurling and camogie at the 2008 Féile. Kildare Intermediate Football Championship
The Kildare Intermediate Football Championship, or Kildare I.F.C., is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kildare GAA clubs since 1928. The winners currently receive the Hugh Campion Cup in honour of the Suncroft official who served as County Board Chairman from 1972 to 1981. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Rathcoffey is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland. Teresa Lynch, Nuala Malone and Eileen Reilly were selected on the Kildare camogie team of the century.
