Kildare Junior Football Championship
The Kildare Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Kildare GAA clubs. The winning club plays in the Kildare Intermediate Football Championship in the following year. As of the 2022 season there is an overall Junior Championship winner as well as a Junior A winner (competed for between the bottom four teams in the Junior Championship Round Robin Group 2). There have been various iterations of the competition, which started in 1906 as the secondary competition to the Kildare Senior Football Championship. In 1928 a Kildare Intermediate Football Championship was started for middle tier teams with the Junior Championship ranking below that. In 1947 the Junior Championship was split into A and B competitions with the winners competing for the overall Junior title. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Caragh GFC
Caragh GFC, Prosperous is a Gaelic football club in Prosperous, County Kildare, Ireland, winner of three county senior football championships and the only club to play in five successive county finals, club of the year 1978 and home club of Larry Stanley, All Ireland medalist in 1919, Olympic athlete in 1924, first winner of the All-Time All-Star award for Gaelic Football and a member of the Kildare team of the millennium. Two of Kildare's winning All Ireland captains came from the club, Larry Stanley and Mick Buckley. Mick's grandson Niall played on the 1998 Kildare All Ireland team. Another county senior football title was lost on objection over a player that was "on the run" during the Civil War. Caragh and Raheens share a parish and while the Raheens grounds are in Caragh village, the Caragh grounds are in Prosperous. Ballykelly GAA
Ballykelly Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic football based Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Republic of Ireland, north of Monasterevin. They field teams from U6 to senior in both ladies' and men's football. History Football Club The present-day club was founded in 1953, and immediately began fundraising and training in Banderra. Ladies' Football The Ballykelly girls' Under 14 team was registered in the spring of 1994 and contained 21 players. In 1997, after a few years of success, Ballykelly and Athgarvan GAA arranged to have players represent both teams. Clogherinkoe GAA
Clogherinkoe GFC is a Gaelic football club in County Kildare, Ireland, the first junior C champions to qualify for the Jack Higgins Cup final. They formed an area team with Johnstownbridge, St John's, which reached the semi-final of the senior football championship in 1978. Padraig Gravin was corner-forward on the 1998 Kildare All Ireland final team. Pat Tyrrell was a noted Kildare forward in the 1960s. John Lowry and John Donoghue were major players for the team throughout the 80's and 90's. Both played on the Kildare senior team for several seasons. Cappagh GAA
Cappagh is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Republic of Ireland. It was the Kildare club of the year in 1998. History Cappagh was founded by Paddy Butler and John Murray in the aftermath of the Easter Rising. Their grounds in Ballyvauneen, southwest of Cappagh, were purchased in 1971 and their dressing room complex opened in 1995. Gaelic Football Kerryman Tadhg Downey played at corner forward on the 1939 Kildare championship team. At Downey's behest, Cappagh adopted the red jerseys of the Dingle club, worn by Kerry in the 1938 All Ireland final. Castlemitchell GAA
Castlemitchell GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland who reached senior status in the 1950s and again in the 1990s from a small catchment area, and is home club of 1998 All Ireland finalist Christy Byrne. It is also the home club Tadhg Fennin who still plays for the men's senior team, a 2000 Leinster Championship winner with Kildare also scoring a goal in the final that day against Dublin. Moorefield GAA
Moorefield is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Newbridge County Kildare, Ireland, winner of two Leinster Club Senior Football Championships, ten Senior County Football Championships and three Senior County Hurling Championships. History Folklore records that, in 1882, two brothers, John O'Kelly of Moorefield Road and James O'Kelly of Ballymany were instrumental in forming the first football team in Newbridge. Naas GAA
Naas is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland, winner of ten Kildare county senior football championships, ten senior hurling championships, four senior camogie championships and Kildare club of the year in 1981. History Naas played the Curragh on 15 February 1885 to become one of eight clubs which share the distinction of being the first to play in a Gaelic football match. Rheban is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in southwest County Kildare, Ireland, near Kilberry. Milltown GAA (County Kildare)
Milltown is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Milltown, County Kildare, Ireland which played a leading role in developing the games in the county. History Milltown won the Junior Championship in 2008 defeating Robertstown by a single point. Emmet Mullhall is Milltown's most famous present player, having been a member of the Kildare panel on the county's last appearance in an All-Ireland final in 1998. Colin O'Shea, a real star for the future, played in the 2009 Minor Leinster final. At some underage grades Milltown, along with Allenwood, Ballyteague & Robertstown, form part of the highly successful combined Parish of Allen club, Na Fianna. Sarsfields GAA (Newbridge)
Sarsfields is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Newbridge in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 25 Kildare Senior Football Championships. The club name is linked to Patrick Sarsfield's castle in the area and the colours, green with white sash, were based on the colours allegedly worn by Sarsfield's men. Pat "Boiler" White (grandfather of current Kildare footballer Gary White) was a member of the Kildare Gaelic football team of the millennium.
