Stradbroke Handicap
The Stradbroke Handicap is a Brisbane Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred open handicap horse race, run over a distance of 1,400 metres at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Brisbane in June during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. It is one of the highlight races on the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with total prize money of A$1,500,000 History The race is named after Lord Stradbroke, relative to Henry John Rous, originator of the weight-for-age scale in thoroughbred racing. Five two-year-olds have won the race, the last was Wiggle, carrying 7 stone 5 pounds (~46.5 kg) in 1958. The 1,400 metre race and track record is 1:20.2 established by Toledo in 1998. Eagle Farm Racecourse
Eagle Farm Racecourse is a heritage-listed horse racing venue in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located at the northern end of Racecourse Road in the suburb of Ascot, from the Brisbane central business district. The turf track is wide, with a circumference of and a home straight of . Races are run in a clockwise direction. Doomben Racecourse is located nearby in the same suburb. History The Eagle Farm Racecourse was established in 1863 and it is now the premier racecourse in Brisbane. In 1889–1890, the architecture partnership Hunter and Corrie and architect John H. Group races, also known as Pattern races, or Graded races in some jurisdictions, are the highest level of races in Thoroughbred horse racing. Equine drug testing is a form of drug testing applied to performance horses in regulated competition. Most common in racehorses, drug tests are also performed on horses in endurance riding and in international competition such as the Olympics and FEI-sanctioned competition. Rough Habit
Rough Habit (2 December 1986 – 7 November 2014) was a New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who won 11 Group One (G1) races on both sides of the Tasman, and won New Zealand's Horse of the Year Award in 1992 and 1995. Background Rough Habit, a bay gelding with a distinctive white blaze trailing over his near-side nostril, was foaled on 2 December 1986. He was sired by Roughcast (USA) out of Certain Habit (NZ) by Ashabit (GB). All Our Mob
All Our Mob (foaled 1989) was an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who was a four-time Group One winner. He was by What A Guest (IRE) out of All Sold (Northern Spring (IRE)-Tickets). All Our Mob, who had always shown plenty of speed but a tendency to wilt over the closing stages, blossomed in the latter half of his four-year-old season, in the autumn of 1994. This campaign featured a number of placings in high-class company, including the Doomben 10,000, and culminated with his first Group One win, in the Stradbroke Handicap. The then Federal Opposition Leader, Alexander Downer, tipped All Our Mob in the race, and explained that winning was what 'All our mob is going to do' against ‘ Mr Keating’ at the next election. Srikandi
Srikandi (foaled 10 October 2010) is a retired Thoroughbred racehorse trained in Australia. She won the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap and Tattersall's Tiara. She won over two million dollars. Career Ridden by Craig Williams, Srikandi had her first race on September 13 2013, winning by a length over the 1000 metre course. After 3 trials early in 2014, and then a narrow loss at Moonee Valley, Srikandi had an easy win at Mornington. This was to be the first of five consecutive victories. On 3 May, she won her first listed race. Three weeks later, she won the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes in a "dominant" performance. Jockey Glen Boss said, "I wanted to see how good she was today and she didn't disappoint me. Coming out of the gates she was looking to relax and I could've ridden her behind the others without any trouble at all which is great from a future viewpoint." Tofane (foaled 12 September 2015) is a New Zealand-bred and Australian raced thoroughbred racehorse that has one four Group One races. Background Tofane is by the stallion Ocean Park, the winner of 5 Group One races. She was bred by Gordon Cunningham in New Zealand. Tofane is out of the Australian mare, Baggy Green, who is a granddaughter of champion European mare, User Friendly. Baggy Green is also a half sister to Queensland Oaks winner Youngstar, and a three-quarter sister to Flight Stakes winner Funstar.
