Rough Habit
Rough Habit (2 December 1986 – 7 November 2014) was a New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who won 11 Group One (G1) races on both sides of the Tasman, and won New Zealand's Horse of the Year Award in 1992 and 1995. Background Rough Habit, a bay gelding with a distinctive white blaze trailing over his near-side nostril, was foaled on 2 December 1986. He was sired by Roughcast (USA) out of Certain Habit (NZ) by Ashabit (GB). Certain Habit was the dam of 11 named foals that were produced in Australia and New Zealand, producing 2 stakes winners in Rough Habit and Citi Habit. Noholme
Noholme (also known as Noholme II)and who took nearly a full second off the race record in winning the prestigious Cox Plate. He was sired by Star Kingdom (IRE), the Leading sire in Australia on five occasions and sire of Sky High etc. Noholme's dam, Oceana, was a daughter of the brilliant miler Colombo (won 2,000 Guineas Stakes) from the good mare Orama by Diophon (also won the 2,000 Guineas). Noholme was a full brother to the stallions, Todman, Faringdon and Shifnal. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Bold Ruler (April 6, 1954 – July 11, 1971) was an American Thoroughbred National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Hall of Fame racehorse who was the 1957 American Horse of the Year, Horse of the Year. This following a three-year-old campaign that included wins in the Preakness Stakes and Trenton Handicap, in which he defeated fellow National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, Hall of Fame inductees Round Table (horse), Round Table and Gallant Man. Bold Ruler was named American Champion Sprinter at age four, and upon retirement became the leading sire in North America eight times between 1963 and 1973, the most of any sire in the twentieth century. Il Vicolo (foaled 27 October 1991) was a New Zealand Standardbred racehorse. He is notable in that he won two New Zealand Trotting Cup races, the richest harness race, and sometimes the richest horse race in New Zealand. As 1995 Harness Horse of the Year, he featured on a New Zealand postage stamp. Il Vicolo had already had some memorable victories to his credit including the New Zealand Derby- Great Northern Derby double and the New South Wales Derby. Horlicks (horse)
Horlicks (07 October 1983 – 24 August 2011) was an outstanding Thoroughbred racemare from New Zealand. She won the internationally contested 1989 Japan Cup in a world record time of 2:22 for 2,400 metres. In addition to the Japan Cup, she won five Group One (G1) races in Australia and New Zealand. Breeding Horlicks was by Three Legs (GB) from the unraced mare, Malt, by Moss Trooper (USA). Malt was later sold to the United States by Australian Bloodstock agent Brian King. Bonecrusher (horse)
Bonecrusher (17 September 1982 – 10 June 2015) was a champion New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse who was widely admired in both Australia and New Zealand. Bred by Bill Punch, by the sire Pag-Asa, his dam's sire was a son of a French champion, Tantieme. Bonecrusher was purchased by Peter Mitchell for just NZ$3,250 at the Waikato Yearling Sales, and was trained by Frank Ritchie. Peter also bought Bonecrusher's full brother. A chestnut, Bonecrusher was nicknamed ''Big Red'' - the same name as the champions Man o' War, Secretariat and Phar Lap. Kiwi (horse)
Kiwi (1 August 1977 – 2 February 1995) was a New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse who won both the Wellington Cup in New Zealand and the Melbourne Cup in Australia in 1983. Kiwi is especially renowned for his last-to-first victory in the Melbourne Cup, and remains the only horse in history to have won both of these cups. Kiwi raced from 1980 to 1987, and died in 1995 at the age of 18. Background Kiwi was bred by Brian Fischer in Parore, New Zealand. Cox Plate is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged three years old and over under Weight for age conditions, over a distance of 2040 metres (approximately 1m 2f), that is held by the Moonee Valley Racing Club at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in late October.
