The Chester Secondary is an active railroad line in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania and Delaware. The line is operated by Conrail Shared Assets Operations, which serves as contract local carrier and switching company for both CSX Transportation and the Norfolk Southern Railway. The line runs from Philadelphia to Claymont, Delaware, a distance of . It traverses the namesake Stoney Creek, Chester Creek, Ridley Creek, Crum Creek and Darby Creek near their mouths along the shore of the Delaware River. This line should not be confused with the Stony Creek Branch, which is a former Reading line in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania between Norristown and Lansdale, in length and operated by CSX for freight only. Lansdale is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a densely-populated commuter town, with many residents traveling daily to Philadelphia using SEPTA Regional Rail's Lansdale/Doylestown Line. Eddystone is a borough in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The population was 2,410 at the 2010 census. History The area at the mouth of Ridley Creek was first called "Tequirassy" by Native Americans. The land was owned by Olof Persson Stille, one of the early settlers from New Sweden, who had immigrated in 1641. Olof Stille, a millwright by trade, came from Penningby Manor in Länna in the county of Uppland, north of Stockholm, Sweden. Conrail , formally the Consolidated Rail Corporation, was the primary Class I railroad in the Northeastern United States between 1976 and 1999. The trade name Conrail is a portmanteau based on the company's legal name. Pennsylvania Route 291 (PA 291) is an east–west route in Pennsylvania that runs from U.S. Route 13 (US 13) and US 13 Business (US 13 Bus.) in Trainer, Delaware County, east to Interstate 76 (I-76) in South Philadelphia near the Walt Whitman Bridge and the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Eastwick station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Philadelphia. It serves the Airport Line to Philadelphia International Airport. Located below 84th Street and situated between Mario Lanza Boulevard and Bartram Avenue ( PA 291), it is the sole stop between central Philadelphia and the Philadelphia International Airport Terminals. Eastwick is within walking distance of the Eastwick Loop station of the 36 trolley which is located at Island Avenue and 80th Street. In 2013, this station saw 367 boardings and 421 alightings on an average weekday. The station is accessed from Interstate 95 northbound via exit 10 and southbound via exit 12B.
